Brian Laundrie’s mom allegedly offered to bake a cake with a shiv for her son, according to Gabby Petito’s family lawyer.
New Details Emerge from Roberta Laundrie’s “Burn After Reading” Letter
Shiv Cake and Burial Shovel Mentioned in Letter
In a recent court filing, it was revealed that Roberta Laundrie, mother of Brian Laundrie, wrote in her infamous “burn after reading” letter that she would bake her son a cake containing a shiv to help him if he were sent to prison for murdering his girlfriend, Gabby Petito. The letter also referenced bringing a shovel to help bury a body.
According to Pat Reilly, the attorney representing Petito’s family in their lawsuit against the Laundries, the letter was written at a time when Petito was as yet unburied, and Brian Laundrie could go to jail for the crime of murder. Reilly is arguing for the release of the letter, which was collected by the FBI as evidence but released back to the Laundries earlier this year.
Laundrie’s Notebook Reveals Details of Petito’s Death
Laundrie, who is believed to have committed suicide after he went missing following the murder of Petito, admitted to killing her in a notebook found with his body. He claimed that Petito had injured herself in a fall while they were visiting Wyoming and that he killed her to take “away her pain.”
Petito’s parents are suing Laundrie’s family, alleging that they knew their son had killed Petito and tried to help him evade capture. Laundrie’s family has said they have “no regrets” for the way they acted following Petito’s disappearance.
Attorney Calls Laundrie’s Claims “Nonsense”
Reilly, the attorney for Petito’s family, called Laundrie’s claims about killing Petito out of mercy due to an accident “nonsense.” He also criticized Laundrie’s letter, saying that he was writing it as though he wanted people to feel sorry for him.
