ANTWERP, Belgium, Oct 8 (Reuters) – American Simone Biles dominates the Artistic Gymnastics World Championships, winning five medals – four golds and a silver.
The 26-year-old superstar now holds a record-breaking 37 world and Olympics medals, including an impressive 23 golds.
In the balance beam final, Biles delivered a flawless routine, earning a score of 14.800, securing the gold ahead of China’s Zhou Yaqin with 14.700.
Brazilian Rebeca Andrade, who defeated Biles in the women’s vault, claimed the bronze with a score of 14.300.
Continuing her dominance, Biles triumphed in the floor final with a score of 14.633, leaving second-placed Andrade 0.133 points behind.
Brazilian Flavia Saraiva secured her first individual medal at the worlds, taking home the bronze with a score of 13.966.
“I wasn’t concerned about the number or color of the medals,” Biles stated. “I simply wanted to showcase my routines once again. Whether I stood on the podium or not, that wasn’t my focus. I just wanted to compete with confidence and rediscover my love for gymnastics.”
Biles led the U.S. women’s team to victory, claiming her sixth all-around title. She also earned gold in the balance beam and floor exercise, along with a silver in the vault.
Proud Jarman
Jake Jarman made history by becoming Britain’s first gold medalist in the men’s vault final.
“I couldn’t be happier with today’s outcome,” Jarman expressed.
“I was incredibly nervous leading up to this competition. I don’t know why. I kept telling myself, ‘just enjoy it, just enjoy it, anything can happen,’ but the nerves were still there.
“To maintain my composure and deliver the vaults I did, I’m extremely proud.”
The 21-year-old finished ahead of American Khoi Young, who secured the silver and added to his second-place finish in the pommel horse and bronze in the team event.
“It feels great. I came here to have fun and do what I needed to do, and it turned out well,” Young shared.
“I’m relieved to be done. It was quite stressful, but I’m absolutely thrilled with my performance. I didn’t have high expectations, but I managed to come away with some medals, so of course, I’m happy.”
Germany’s Lukas Dauser claimed gold in the men’s parallel bars final, while Japan’s Daiki Hashimoto took the top spot in the horizontal bar event.
