Brittney Griner’s Private Flight Request Sparks Little Sympathy.

WNBA Star Brittney Griner Complains About Lack of Private Flights, Faces Backlash

WNBA star Brittney Griner recently voiced her frustration with the league for not offering her preferential treatment, specifically the option to fly privately, after she was heckled at an airport earlier this month.

Griner was confronted by conservative social media personality Alex Stein at Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport on June 10. In a viral clip, Stein asked Griner if she wanted to boycott America and made other provocative comments.

As the situation escalated, Stein shouted, “She hates America! What about the merchant of death, Britt?”

The “merchant of death” comment referred to a prisoner swap between the Biden administration and Russia in December, which resulted in Griner’s release from a Russian prison in exchange for notorious arms dealer Viktor Bout.

Griner had previously expressed her belief that the national anthem should not be played at sporting events.

According to ESPN, Griner recently addressed the media about a new WNBA policy that allows players to choose their own flights. She expressed her disappointment that it took so long for the league to implement this change, stating, “It’s a shame that it had to get to rock bottom because I feel like waiting for something to happen and then making a change, you don’t know what that something’s going to be. We’ve all seen what can happen in this world. And when you play the ‘let’s wait and see’ game, you’re really playing with fire. You’re playing with people’s lives.”

Griner’s complaints were shared on Twitter by ESPN, but many users were unsympathetic:

Griner and the Phoenix Mercury have struggled this season, resulting in the firing of head coach Vanessa Nygaard. Nygaard has been replaced by interim coach Nikki Blue, according to ESPN.
