Belgian ‍authorities are uncertain whether the shooting has any connection to‌ the⁤ ongoing international tension surrounding the Israel-Hamas conflict.

The alleged assailant,⁣ Abdesalem Al Guilani, who referred to himself as “a fighter for Allah,” maintained ‍that he had killed three people, rather than two.

It is unclear whether the ⁤suspected assailant has⁢ been taken into police custody yet. However, the Brussels prosecutor’s office confirmed⁣ the beginning⁣ of an official ‌investigation.

The office ⁢has not provided ⁤any specific information, such as details regarding the⁣ victims,⁢ potential suspects, or ‍confirmed an underlying ⁣motive.

At the time of the shooting, a soccer game between Belgium and Sweden was underway‍ at Stade Roi Baudouin, a ⁢stadium that holds more than 35,000 ⁤fans.

He also emphasized that there is “no evidence” to suggest⁣ any ⁢connection between the ⁣attack and the ‍Middle East conflict.

Belgian Prime ⁢Minister Alexander De Croo shared his condolences with his Swedish counterparts on X, formerly ‌known as Twitter, and expressed his thoughts for the families and friends of the victims.

De ‌Croo’s‌ opinion also ⁢differed from Van Der Sypt, suggesting that the attack could ⁢be linked to terrorism.

Brussels Shooting Leaves Two Dead ⁣and Raises Terrorism Threat Level

On the evening of October 16, ⁤2023, tragedy struck in Brussels as two Swedish nationals were fatally shot and another ⁢person ⁣was injured in a violent attack. The incident prompted Belgium’s prime minister to convene an⁢ emergency meeting at⁤ a crisis center in response⁤ to the alarming⁤ situation.

Authorities in ‍Belgium swiftly escalated the terrorism threat⁤ level in Brussels to level 4, while the rest of the‍ country was raised to level 3. The ‌shooting,⁤ which occurred late on Monday, has raised concerns ⁤about potential acts of terrorism within the country.

Although ‌Belgian authorities are unsure whether this incident is connected to the ongoing international tension surrounding⁣ the Israel-Hamas conflict, reports indicate that the shooter declared on social media to be “inspired” ⁤by the Islamic State terrorist organization. Furthermore, the attacker expressed motivation to target Swedish ⁤individuals.

Identified ‌as Abdesalem Al Guilani, the alleged assailant referred‍ to himself as “a fighter for Allah”‍ and claimed to have killed three people instead of two. It remains unclear whether the suspected assailant has been apprehended by the police. However, the Brussels prosecutor’s office ⁢has initiated an official investigation into the matter.

While the prosecutor’s⁤ office has not released specific details regarding the victims or any potential suspects, one ⁢significant event ⁢occurred simultaneously with the shooting. A soccer game between Belgium and ⁤Sweden was underway at the⁣ Stade Roi Baudouin, ⁣a ⁣stadium with a capacity of ⁤over 35,000 fans. Due to the shooter remaining at large, the match was abruptly halted, and the stadium was evacuated as a precautionary measure.

Eric Van Der Sypt, a spokesperson‍ for the federal prosecutor’s ‌office,‍ provided updates on the situation. He reported that the third injured victim ‌had sustained severe injuries but‍ is now in stable condition. Van Der Sypt made it clear that there is currently “no⁣ evidence” to suggest any connection ‍between the attack ‍and the ongoing conflict⁤ in the Middle East.

As the investigation continues, Belgian authorities are working diligently to uncover ‌more information ⁢about the motive behind this appalling act of ⁣violence. The incident serves as a ‍grave reminder of the persistent threats faced by nations worldwide and the importance of maintaining vigilance in the face of terrorism.
