Burbank, California, Mayor Konstantine Anthony is facing sharp criticism from city council members and residents after a viral video surfaced on social media. The video showed him being spanked at a drag queen bingo event, sparking a public uproar.
Councilwoman Expresses Concern
Councilwoman Tamala Takahashi addressed the issue at the Burbank City Council meeting on Tuesday. She acknowledged the numerous phone calls and emails she received from concerned citizens, describing them as “very helpful.”
Takahashi admitted to struggling with how to handle the situation, having received over 50 phone calls and more than a hundred emails expressing outrage over the mayor’s behavior.

Takahashi explained the negative impacts of the mayor’s subsequent actions, including changing his social media name to “Mayor Spanky” on X (formerly known as Twitter) and his response to criticisms. She emphasized that the “quips and renaming of accounts” cease to be entertaining when they start affecting the city.
Furthermore, Takahashi revealed that the city staff had spent over 30 hours of taxpayer money on this issue.

Takahashi expressed her disappointment, stating, “Mr. mayor, you brought the circus to city hall, and this is where I feel like the line has been crossed.” She clarified that she had no issue with the mayor participating in the event and even admitted to being a fan of drag queen shows. However, she criticized his handling of the criticism, calling it “bad judgment.”
Takahashi pointed out that there were numerous opportunities for the mayor to de-escalate the situation, but instead, it was escalated further.
