Caitlin Clark encourages voters to educate themselves – Washington Examiner

Based on Taylor Swift’s endorsement of Kamala Harris for the 2024 election, Caitlin Clark, the prominent basketball player,⁣ was asked about the possibility of her giving a similar endorsement. In response, Clark emphasized the importance of using her platform ⁣to encourage voter registration and‍ education. She stated, “I have this amazing platform… the biggest thing would be just to encourage people to register to vote.” At 22, Clark noted that this is her second‍ opportunity to‍ vote and underscored the need for individuals to educate themselves⁢ about the candidates and their policies.

Swift, in her endorsement, mentioned that she had “done my research” before making her choice and ⁣urged⁢ others ‌to do the same. This advocacy for informed voting resonated with OutKick host Riley Gaines, who praised Clark’s sentiments as a “perfect answer.” Clark’s approach aligns with ⁤the ⁤views of other public figures, such as ‌Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, who also advocated for research ⁤before making voting decisions without offering specific endorsements.

Caitlin Clark encourages voters to educate themselves while declining to endorse Harris

Indiana Fever star Caitlin Clark advocated informed voting when asked about potentially endorsing Vice President Kamala Harris, arguing people should continue to educate themselves ahead of the election.

Clark’s statement comes shortly after musician Taylor Swift endorsed Harris in the 2024 election via an Instagram post. Ahead of Wednesday night’s WNBA game between the Indiana Fever and the Las Vegas Aces, a reporter asked Clark about liking Swift’s post and whether she plans to give a similar endorsement.

“I think for myself is I have this amazing platform, so I think the biggest thing would be just to encourage people to register to vote,” Clark said. “I think for myself, this is the second time I can vote in an election at age 22, I could vote when I was age 18. So I think do that, that’s the biggest thing I can do with the platform that I have, and that’s the same thing Taylor did. And I think continue to educate yourself with the candidates that we have, the policies that they’re supporting.”

Swift said in her endorsement of Harris that she had “done my research” and “made my choice” to support the vice president and that the research for other voters is “all yours to do.”

Clark’s advocacy to vote received praise from OutKick host and women’s sports activist Riley Gaines, who called it a “perfect answer.”

Clark’s encouragement to vote without providing an endorsement mirrors what Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes advocated, telling voters in April to “do the research” before voting. Mahomes did not endorse either former President Donald Trump or then-presidential candidate Joe Biden in 2020, though he did join NBA star LeBron James’s “More Than A Vote” campaign, which encouraged black people to get registered to vote.

Last month, Mahomes’s wife, Brittany, generated controversy online when she appeared to like an Instagram post of Trump’s. In the wake of the controversy, Mahomes wrote a message that did not directly reference the drama but stated that people “have to have some deep rooted issues” from childhood to “hate to see others doing well.” Trump thanked her for her support.

Swift, Brittany Mahomes, and Patrick Mahomes were spotted attending the 2024 U.S. Open final together on Sunday, with Swift joined by her boyfriend, Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce.

Earlier this year, movie star and wrestler Dwayne Johnson revealed that he was not planning to endorse any candidate for 2024. The actor previously endorsed Biden ahead of the 2020 election, explaining that he thought giving his endorsement was “the best decision for me” at the time.
