California Democrat Jackie Spier is now the 15th Democrat to announce retirement plans at the end of the term. She posted a video on Twitter Tuesday, confirming she will not seek reelection in 2022.

The 71-year old reflected on the exact moment she decided to dedicate her life to public service when she was ambushed during the Jonestown Massacre in Guyana back in 1978.

“Forty-three years ago this week, I was laying on an airstrip in the jungles of Guyana with five bullet holes in my body,” said Spier. “I vowed that if I survived I would dedicate my life to public service. I lived and I served. It has been a remarkable journey that has surpassed my wildest dreams.”

The string of Democrat retirements is a blow to the party as Republicans try to take back the House majority.
