CA Attorney General sues school district over mandatory parental notification on student gender transitions.

California Attorney General Files Lawsuit Against School District Over⁣ Gender Notification Policy

California Attorney General Rob Bonta has taken legal action against a school district in a bid‌ to halt its recently implemented policy that‌ requires schools to ‍inform parents about ⁣student gender⁣ transitions. The⁢ lawsuit was‌ filed on Monday and ⁣aims to protect the civil rights⁣ of LGBTQ+ ‌students.

Bonta ‌launched an investigation ⁣into the Chino Valley Unified⁢ School District earlier this month after⁤ officials passed a policy in July that mandates teachers to notify parents within⁣ three days if their child uses different names ⁢and ‌pronouns ‍or expresses a⁣ desire to participate in activities that align with‍ a gender different from their⁤ birth certificate.

“Every student has the ‌right to learn ⁤and⁢ thrive⁣ in a school environment that ⁣promotes safety, privacy, and inclusivity – regardless of their gender identity,” stated‌ Bonta in‍ a news release.

The attorney general argues that ⁤the district’s “forced outing policy” ⁢violates ‍the privacy⁢ rights of LGBTQ+ ‍students and the California Constitution. He emphasized⁣ the ‍importance of creating‍ accepting environments for non-conforming‍ students and⁣ vowed ⁤to fight for the civil rights of LGBTQ+ students across all school districts in California.

Chino Valley Unified spokesperson Andi Johnston assured that ⁢the⁣ district has been cooperating with the state’s investigation and has ‌been transparent throughout the process. The district is currently reviewing the lawsuit ‌with its legal⁤ counsel.

Parents’ Rights Activists‌ Protest Gender-Affirming Bills

Earlier this month, a group ‌of ⁤parents’ rights activists⁤ staged a demonstration outside the California Capitol in Sacramento, expressing their opposition to gender-affirming bills and advocating for parental notification regarding student gender ⁢policies.

Sonja‌ Shaw, president of the Chino ⁢Valley Unified Board of Education, has been a prominent advocate⁣ for the district’s policy. She criticized ⁣Attorney ‍General Bonta’s actions as government overreach and an aggressive response to a measure aimed at fostering transparency between schools and parents.

Shaw emphasized that parents have a⁣ constitutional right in the upbringing of their children and‌ vowed to protect their children within the bounds of the law. She expressed concern over the assumption that parents are dangerous ⁢and called for standing up ⁣against attempts ⁣to marginalize parental⁤ involvement.

California’s Push for‌ Radical‌ Gender Theory Laws Sparks ⁣Backlash

California has emerged as a leading state in ⁤promoting radical gender theory-related laws, ‍which have faced significant ⁣opposition from parents, school boards, and lawmakers.⁢ These laws seek to undermine parental authority, enforce state-controlled ⁢curriculum, and target local ‌school boards.

Republican Assemblymember ⁣Bill ⁢Essayli introduced AB ⁢1314,⁤ a bill that ‌would⁢ require schools ⁤to ⁣notify ⁤parents if their child uses different⁣ pronouns or undergoes a change in ‌identity. The bill was inspired by the ⁣Chino Valley Unified School⁤ District’s policy and has influenced other school districts in California to adopt similar measures.

Essayli remains determined to advance his legislative priorities, ⁢either through the California State Assembly ‌or directly through school districts. ⁢The bill ⁤has yet to pass in‌ the State Assembly, but⁤ Essayli continues to ‍push‍ for⁣ its implementation.
