California Bill Would Block School Districts From Removing Woke Lessons, Potentially Enriching Gov. Newsom’s Wife
A proposed California bill would give the state the power to dictate curriculum content to schools, potentially leading to profits for the wife of Gov. Gavin Newsom. State Assemblyman Corey Jackson introduced the “Instructional materials: removing instructional materials and curriculum: diversity” bill in February, intending to prevent conservative school districts from censoring course materials. Conservative areas in the state may be caught up in the amendment, as existing legislation allows local governing boards to exclude “sectarian, partisan, or denominational” publications or books. The bill demands that every school district ensure each instructional material proportionally and accurately represents California’s “diversity” when it comes to categories like race and sexuality.
Jackson was elected last year, and before that served for two years on the Riverside County Board of Education. A representative from OpenTheBooks, a watchdog organization, has expressed the view that the current legislation takes power away from communities, and parents should carry out “self-audits” of what their children are being taught in school. The site has also pointed out that Newsom’s wife is the founder of a non-profit organization called The Representation Project, which generates films about social justice. It has licensed two of these films featuring her husband, to schools in 5,000 cities in and beyond California, generating nearly $1.5 million in screening revenue since our 2012; $1.6 million of this amount was provided to Girls Club Entertainment, a firm owned by Jennifer Seibel Newsom.
OpenTheBooks’ research into the films revealed “sexually explicit images, political boosterism, and something called “The Genderbread Person,” the report said. “Newsom’s film The Mask You Live In features the website addresses of porn sites including Porn Hub, MassiveCams, BDSM.XXX, and Brazzers.com.”
In 2019, a Creekside Middle School parent lodged a complaint after her daughter viewed one of the films, citing “profanity,” according to an article in the Daily Wire.
