California Democrat to Receive Incorporation into Congress for Superman Comic Book

One of the midterm congressional races that didn’t attract much media attention took place in California’s 42nd district, representing the area around Long Beach. Robert Garcia, a Democrat in this race, was expected win in a close contest. This was why the race was not covered much. He won by a margin of 68/31. Garcia, his family and other relatives immigrated to the United States when Garcia was five years old from Peru. Garcia also served as Mayor of Long Beach. If the Republicans manage to elect a Speaker, Garcia would be sworn into office for his first term. But, there will be something different about Garcia’s ceremony. He will be sworn into office while holding onto four documents that are not a Bible. But one of them will be a comic book It is estimated that it will be worth more then five million dollars. (The Blaze)

A Democrat elected to U.S. Congress 2020 will be sworn into on several documents, including a duplicate of the first “Superman” The comic book is valued at $5.3 Million.

A journalist noticed the comic book in the midst of the many religious books, and other documents on which Congressmen had made their oaths.

A congressional aide declined to reveal the identity of the member when the journalist asked.

Robert Garcia, a Long Beach Democrat and a Democrat, claimed that he was the one who would be sworn-in on the comic book.

Garcia wasn’t trying to hide what he was doing. Garcia took to Twitter to display the comic book and his plans for it.

It is acceptable to take the oath and place your hand on the Constitution. Similarly, there’s nothing wrong with including a photo of his deceased parents and his proof of legal citizenship. But… a comic book? Seriously?

You may be wondering how someone his age and from such a rich background could come up with $5 million to buy a Superman comic. Don’t worry. It’s not his. He borrowed it from Library of Congress. I wasn’t aware that the Library of Congress contained rare comics, but it’s technically a “book” So that makes sense. But, were there any security personnel who went with the stolen comic? This would make it very tempting for thieves to enter the area, at least that’s what I imagine.

This story was important to me because of the subliminal message Garcia’s decision seems to send. As a member of the Senate is sworn in, they pledge to defend and support the Constitution and country. Such oaths have traditionally been taken while placing one hand on a bible to underscore the sincerity of the promise being made, though that’s not mandatory. If Garcia doesn’t want to be seen with his hand on a bible, that’s his call.

It’s a joke that the whole ceremony was made fun of by replacing the bible for a comic book. This decision seems to underscore the unserious nature of far too many of the people that we’re sending to Washington to conduct the nation’s business. And the results of such unseriousness show up all too often, and I’m not just talking about the failure to elect a Speaker. The future of America is at stake because of massive, unsustainable spending bills and a nation debt that exceeds 30 trillion dollars. A lack of proper oversight of the executive branch, along with a failure to keep the nation’s citizens safe and our borders secure are additional crimes. We don’t need new members making a mockery of the process. Sadly, the joke is on us, and it’s not funny in the least.
