A California Mother Loses Her Job After Speaking Out Against Controversial Sex-Ed Curriculum
A California mother, Janet Roberson, found herself unemployed after she bravely voiced her concerns about a controversial sex-ed curriculum at a district school board meeting. The curriculum includes topics such as puberty blockers and gender transitioning, which Roberson believes are inappropriate for K-12 students.
“Teaching kids that there isn’t a standard or truth and that you can believe anything you want is not scientifically accurate or medically correct. For example, the notion that a girl can decide to be a boy, or a boy can decide to be a girl is not true and should not be taught.”
In an exclusive interview with The Daily Wire, Roberson revealed that shortly after the school board meeting, a slanderous letter was published in a local newspaper, accusing her of being a racist, transphobe, and a Nazi. The letter was written by a person she had never met, who made assumptions based on her comments at the meeting.
As a result of the letter, Roberson’s real estate agency, Compass, terminated her contract without providing an explanation. Despite her successful track record with the company, they claimed she was an independent contractor and therefore not entitled to an explanation.
“I was absolutely crushed. These are people I really loved working with, respected, I still do. I was absolutely devastated. And then I thought, what am I going to do?”
Roberson discovered that the complaint against her was sent by a member of a local Democrat group and an activist organization. The person accused her of being hateful and accused her of having internalized hate towards black and transgender people. The complaint was then forwarded to Compass, leading to her termination.
“It seems unfair to me that Compass, whose DEI policies I have reviewed at length, would be associated with such a hateful person…”
Roberson’s story gained attention after she posted a video on social media, recounting her experience and the controversy surrounding her comments at the school board meeting. The video went viral and even caught the attention of Elon Musk.
Despite the challenges she faces, Roberson holds no resentment towards the school board and appreciates their support for parent input and community dialogue. She hopes that her former real estate agency will embrace ideological diversity and provide an explanation for their decision to terminate her contract.
“I would love someone to have the courage to stand up and say, ‘I was the decision maker, it was me.’ And I would love to know why that person didn’t reach out to me and hear what my view was.”
Friends of Roberson have started a GiveSendGo campaign to help with her legal expenses if she decides to pursue further action.
