California parents launch ballot initiatives against gender ideology.

SACRAMENTO, Calif.—Parental‌ Rights Groups Launch Statewide Ballot⁤ Initiatives to Counter California’s ⁣Guidelines

A coalition‌ of parental rights groups ‌has recently launched three statewide ballot initiatives in California. These initiatives ⁢aim to address ⁤concerns regarding ⁣the lack‌ of parental notification about gender transitions, biological boys competing in girls’ sports, and⁢ transgender medical interventions on minors.

The main organization behind this⁢ effort is⁢ Students First California, a⁢ non-profit parent and family advocacy group. They have formed a subgroup called Protect⁤ Kids California,‌ which is working with other parental rights groups to organize the ballot ‌initiatives.

The ‌coalition plans to start collecting signatures in November, once California Attorney⁢ General Rob Bonta provides ballot titles ‍and‌ summaries for each initiative. They will then have‍ 180 days to gather the required number of⁤ qualified signatures for each initiative to ⁢be included on the 2024 general election ballot.

The⁣ first initiative, known as the Protect Children from Reproductive Harm Act, aims to ⁣safeguard the reproductive, sexual health, and bodily integrity of children. It ‌seeks to prohibit the use⁢ of ‍puberty blockers, cross-sex hormones, and gender transition ⁤surgeries for minors.

The second initiative, called the Protect Girls Sports and Spaces Act,⁢ aims to ensure fair ‍and safe opportunities for girls to participate in athletic programs. ‍It recognizes the physical differences between males and females that can give males a competitive advantage and requires sex-segregated⁢ locker rooms and bathrooms.

The third initiative, known⁤ as the ⁤School Transparency ‌and Partnership Act, aims to require parental consent for social gender ⁢transitions at school and ensure that ⁣parents are fully informed about their child’s well-being, including mental health and social⁢ development.

According to Jay Reed, a board member of Students‌ First⁢ California, the coalition wants ‍to take these issues ‍directly ‌to California voters because they feel that the Democratic Party, which currently governs the state, is not listening to parents. He mentioned that a proposed legislation⁣ requiring parental notification for transgender identification at school was ⁢killed ⁢in committee before it could be heard.

The⁢ parental ⁣rights coalition is primarily composed of parents and young adults who are passionate about protecting children from what they perceive as dangerous and unproven policies and ideologies. They believe that reasonable conversations and engagement have been replaced with labels such as “right-wing ‍MAGA”‍ and “bigots.”

Jonathan Zachreson, president of Students First California, emphasized the need to bring these issues⁣ directly to the voters ‍since polling data shows that a⁤ majority of Californians, including ‍many Democrats, support⁣ these initiatives.

Meanwhile, the Newsom administration has ‌responded to these parental rights groups by filing a lawsuit against the⁢ Chino Valley Unified School District, which recently adopted a ⁤policy⁣ requiring parental notification if a child requests to be known as‌ a gender other than their sex on their birth certificate.

Equality ‍California, an LGBT activist group, ‍staged a protest on the Capitol grounds, applauding the lawsuit and denouncing‌ the school district’s parental notification policy as the “forced outing” of transgender⁤ students.

State Sen. Scott Wiener⁣ (D-San Francisco) also spoke at the protest, expressing his opposition ⁣to the ballot ‍measures and ‌stating that they will be rejected. He accused parental rights groups of trying to make it a popularity⁤ contest for the existence of children.

Assemblymember Bill Essayli, who supports⁣ the parental rights initiatives, clarified that they ‍are not attacking transgender kids ⁤but rather aiming to protect them from irreversible harm caused by medical interventions.

Mr. Essayli criticized the Democratic Party for ‍pushing a false narrative that parental rights are anti-trans, labeling parents as a hate group without evidence to support such claims.
