California University Holds Kyle Rittenhouse Verdict ‘Debriefing’ For Students, Provides ‘Counseling And Psychological Services’
California State University Long Beach (CSULB) provided students and faculty the option to attend a “debriefing” of the verdict in the Kyle Rittenhouse trial. The “debriefing” noted that “Counseling and Psychological Services staff will be present” at the event.
The College Fix reported that the event took place online Monday afternoon, just days after Rittenhouse was found not guilty on all charges after shooting three people at riots in Kenosha, Wisconsin last year. Video evidence and witnesses showed that Rittenhouse only fired his weapon when his attackers chased him down the street.
CSULB spokesman Jim Milbury told the Fix in an email that “When there are higher-profile events and issues in the public discourse, it is not uncommon for our university to provide spaces for our campus community to discuss those topics.”
He added that the event was “unstructured” was hosted by the Student Affairs Division. A flyer for the event obtained by the Fix read:
DEBRIEF OF RITTENHOUSE VERDICT
Join us for a facilitated conversation to debrief the verdict in the Kyle Rittenhouse trial. This discussion is hosted by the Division of Student Affairs and is open to all CSULB students, staff, & faculty.
**Counseling and Psychological Services staff will be present.
As the Fix noted, numerous universities and professors have tried to make the Rittenhouse trial and verdict about race, even though Rittenhouse and his three attackers were all white. From the Fix:
Over the weekend, controversial Rutgers University professor Brittney Cooper said the Rittenhouse verdict was a sign of “which version of whiteness” America wants. When discussing the fact that the men Rittenhouse shot were white, she said there “have always been white victims of white supremacy.”
At Fitchburg State University in Massachusetts, administrators scheduled “virtual and in-person physical” spaces for students who needed to process the Rittenhouse verdict. The spaces are segregated by the students’ color, with white and students of color being asked to attend separate “processing spaces.”
At New York University, Dean Neil Guterman issued a statement saying the school’s social work scholars, teachers, and learners “stand in solidarity with those protesting against racial injustice, and share the pain at the outcome of the trial of Kyle Rittenhouse.”
Guterman added, “I am thinking of you all as we process this latest injustice and redouble our commitment to advance social justice and racial equity.”
As The Daily Wire chronicled, numerous Leftists blamed “white supremacy” for Rittenhouse being acquitted, despite clear evidence of self-defense and the fact that everyone involved was white:
Rep. Adriano Espaillat (D-NY): “Kyle Rittenhouse is living proof that white tears can still forestall justice. A murderer is once again walking free today — our system is terribly broken.”
Dyjuan Tatro, senior adviser to the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee: “I do not believe that convictions equal justice. But I am convinced that the ‘not guilty’ verdict constitutes a great injustice today. The American legal system is rooted in racism and functions to uphold white supremacy.”
American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU): “Despite Kyle Rittenhouse’s conscious decision to travel across state lines and injure one person and take the lives of two people protesting the shooting of Jacob Blake by police, he was not held responsible for his actions. Unfortunately, this is not surprising,” the organization said in a statement.
“His acquittal comes after our investigation exposed how Kenosha law enforcement used violence against protesters and drove them toward white militia groups, in ways that escalated tensions and almost certainly led to these shootings.
It is far too easy to overlook the impact that violence in defense of white supremacy has on the Black and Brown communities.
When the community rose up to exercise their First Amendment right to protest after the police shot a Black man in the back — in front of his children, police enabled white supremacist militia members.”
ACLU of Maryland: “Dangerous, disgusting, unacceptable white supremacy in #RittenhouseVerdict.”
