‘Pence Stalls as Tucker Asks the Burning Question’

‘Can I Just Take a Moment?’ Pence Forced to Stall After Tucker Asks the Question on Everyone’s Mind

Former Vice President Mike Pence found himself in an awkward position when he was asked about the events of January 6, 2021, during the Family Leadership Summit in Des Moines, Iowa. Moderator Tucker Carlson didn’t hold back as he grilled Republican presidential candidates on important issues.

Carlson, known for his commanding presence, didn’t hesitate to challenge the candidates. He even made mincemeat out of former Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson, who faced tough questions about his veto of a bill aimed at protecting children from transgender surgeries and hormone “therapy.”

Next in line was Pence, who has been trying to distance himself from former President Donald Trump while presenting himself as a statesman. However, his efforts haven’t resonated with potential voters, as polling suggests.

Carlson seized the opportunity to question Pence about the Capitol incursion. He asked, “Do you think that was an insurrection?” Pence hesitated, taking a moment to thank the event organizers and mention pro-life protections soon to be signed into law by Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds.

Pence finally responded, stating, “I’ve never used the word ‘insurrection.’ It was a riot that took place at the Capitol that day.” He expressed sorrow for the tragic loss of life on January 6 and defended his decision not to send Electoral College votes back to state legislatures during the contested 2020 election.

Carlson pressed further, asking Pence about his support for Ukraine while American communities struggle. Pence seemed irritated by the suggestion and replied, “It’s not my concern. Tucker, I’ve heard that routine from you before, but that’s not my concern.”

The Republican primary race, which began when Trump announced his candidacy in November, kicked into high gear in Iowa. However, Pence’s performance suggests that he may be one of the candidates who will exit the race early in the coming months.

Surviving the upcoming debates while being out of touch with the conservative base will be a challenge for Pence. Only time will tell how he navigates this difficult situation.
