Canadian in severe pain after gender confirmation surgery requests euthanasia from government, but request is denied.

A Transgender Individual Denied Euthanasia in Canada ‍Due to Post-Surgical Pain

In a heartbreaking case, ⁢Lois Cardinal, a‍ self-described “transsexual” male who⁣ underwent gender-affirming⁤ surgery in⁣ 2009, has been living with⁣ constant ⁢pain. The pain⁢ has ‌become so unbearable that Cardinal sought permission from ‌Canada’s MAID program (medical assistance⁢ in dying) to be euthanized. However, his request was rejected.

Cardinal, a‍ 35-year-old⁣ “sterilized First Nations ⁣post-op transsexual,” turned to the MAID program, ‌with ⁤his ⁤doctor‌ explaining that his distress‌ was related ⁢to the pain and anxiety caused by ⁢his neo-vagina. Unfortunately, another doctor consulted‍ on‌ the⁢ case concluded that Cardinal did⁣ not meet the current criteria for MAID, suggesting a reassessment in the future if‌ his clinical status changed.

Wesley⁤ J. Smith, writing for National Review, pointed out ⁣that Canadian law does not require ⁤individuals seeking euthanasia to exhaust⁤ all available care options.‍ Instead, the decision is based on the patient’s perspective of “irremediable suffering,”⁢ rather than ⁣the⁢ lack of palliative ‍or treatment interventions.

Speaking to The⁣ Daily Mail, Cardinal expressed his⁤ constant discomfort and pain, stating that it has taken a significant psychological toll on him. Frustrated by the lack of proper medical care, he expressed his desire to end his suffering.

Cardinal⁢ also criticized the healthcare system for prioritizing gender ideologies over providing adequate medical care. “I’m not getting any better, and nor am I experiencing better medical‍ care,⁣ or any medical care,” he ‍added.

Advocating for Change

Taking‌ to Twitter, Cardinal called on‍ all levels of government and offices to reconsider their stance ⁤on “gender affirming care.” He emphasized the ⁣need for a collective effort to ⁢protect the well-being of children.

Furthermore, Cardinal expressed his disagreement with the current ⁢rhetoric of the transgender community. He believes that ⁢the lack ⁣of honest and tough conversations within the community contributes to the fueling of transphobia and hate.
