Capitol doctor finds no proof of McConnell’s stroke or seizure condition.
Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) Receives Medical Update
The attending physician of the U.S. Congress has provided an update on Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell’s health following his recent episode. Dr. Brian Monahan stated that McConnell did not suffer a stroke or have a seizure disorder.
In a note released by McConnell’s office, Dr. Monahan explained that he conducted various medical evaluations, including brain MRI imaging and EEG study, along with consultations with neurologists. The comprehensive assessment revealed no evidence of a seizure disorder, stroke, or movement disorder such as Parkinson’s disease.

McConnell, 81, had previously been hospitalized with a concussion in March after a fall in Washington, D.C. Recently, he has experienced moments of freezing and difficulty answering questions during press interactions. However, Dr. Monahan’s assessment concluded that McConnell can continue his work without any changes in treatment protocols.
Dr. Monahan also mentioned that occasional lightheadedness is common during concussion recovery and can be attributed to dehydration.
Despite concerns about McConnell’s health and calls for retirement, including similar concerns surrounding President Joe Biden and Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-CA), Sen. Mike Rounds (R-SD) assured that McConnell will return to Washington, D.C., after the summer recess to discuss the matter with his colleagues.
“Mitch is sharp, and he is shrewd. He understands what needs to be done. I will leave it up to him as to how he wants to discuss that with the American public,” Rounds said, expressing confidence in McConnell’s capabilities.
