Police are searching for a carjacking suspect while two 16-year-old teens have been arrested.
Arrests Made in Carjacking Case, Search Continues for Third Suspect
In an incident that unfolded on September 14, two 16-year-olds, a boy and a girl, have been apprehended in connection with an alleged carjacking. However, authorities are still on the lookout for a third suspect, described as a man in his 20s.
The carjacking took place in Norwalk, where the suspects reportedly stole the vehicle at knifepoint. Despite the efforts of responding officers, the stolen vehicle could not be located at the time, leaving many details unknown. However, the situation took a turn on the morning of September 15 when Seal Beach officers received an automated license plate reader alert.
Responding swiftly, officers received a second alert as the vehicle entered Old Town in Seal Beach. Eventually, the stolen vehicle was found in the 700 block of Electric Avenue. Positioned behind the car, officers initiated a traffic stop, leading to the arrests of the two juveniles.
As the stolen vehicle continued northbound, three suspects abandoned it and fled on foot. The car eventually crashed into an unoccupied parked vehicle in the Mary Willson Library parking lot. While two juveniles were swiftly apprehended, law enforcement agencies from Seal Beach, Los Alamitos, Cypress, and Huntington Beach joined forces to locate the third suspect, a man in his 20s.
The arrested juveniles, a boy from Whittier and a girl from Pico Rivera, were later released into the custody of their parents. Due to their age, their identities have been withheld from the public.
According to Lt. Julia Clasby, a spokesperson for the Seal Beach Police Department, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department has taken possession of the alleged stolen vehicle.
Anyone with information regarding the missing suspect or the carjacking incident is urged to contact Seal Beach PD Detective Sgt. Gibson at 562-799-4100, extension 1172, or via email at [email protected].
