Carlos Gimenez says agency heads know best when it comes to meeting DOGE demands

Rep. Carlos Gimenez (R-FL) applauded FBI Director Kash Patel’s order to pause “any responses” to emails asking what they accomplished every week, citing how this could compromise classified information.

Patel’s order came shortly after Department of Government Efficiency head Elon Musk requested federal workers send an email every week documenting what they accomplished, and failure to do so would be assumed as an employee’s resignation. Gimenez contended that while every agency in the federal government needs to be trimmed down, Patel and others in charge are “the best to know” what cuts are necessary, as they can make the reduction themselves “without stepping on landmines.”

“They’ve all been appointed by President Trump. President Trump has given them marching orders ‘go ahead and trim down your agency,” he said.

“An FBI agent can’t tell you five things they’ve done,” Gimenez added on Fox Business’s Mornings with Maria Bartiromo. “A lot have investigated so and so and so and so and so and so, no, they can’t do that. Same thing with DOD, we have classified information in there. Those agency heads need to have buy-in. They need to be involved in the process, and Elon Musk can help them in that process to look at things that maybe they wouldn’t be looking at. That’s the way that I would handle it.”

The Florida congressman added that the federal government should be streamlined “every so often,” citing how bureaucracies can become out of control, which he argued is “completely” the case with the current federal government.

Patel also announced that conservative podcast and radio host Dan Bongino is being recruited as deputy director of the FBI, which came as reports stated that Patel is serving as acting director of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives. Gimenez said he has “no problem” with Patel heading multiple agencies, as this is a “good example” of how the government can be downsized.

Bongino’s recruitment came as he is currently the host of The Dan Bongino Show, which airs on the radio network Westwood One from 12-3 p.m. ET. His final episode is scheduled for Friday, March 14.
