Sen. Cruz: Cartels fully control our southern border.
Sen. Ted Cruz: Democrat Policies Have Given Cartels Control of the Southern Border
Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) is deeply concerned about the state of the southern border, placing the blame for illegal immigration, drug trafficking, and human trafficking squarely on the shoulders of Democrat policies.
Having personally visited the border multiple times, Mr. Cruz asserts that “if you haven’t seen it firsthand, you can’t understand what’s happening.” During a midnight tour with Border Patrol and fellow members of Congress, he witnessed “dozens of cartel members, screaming across the river and taunting in Spanish, ‘you can’t stop us.'”
Regrettably, he admits that they are right. “The cartels have 100 percent operational control over our southern border,” he revealed.
“Nobody crosses the border without paying the cartels,” he declared. “If you try to cross the border without paying the cartels, they’ll kill you.”
According to Mr. Cruz, “In 2018, the Mexican drug cartels made roughly $500 million from human trafficking,” and “last year, the cartels made over $13 billion from human trafficking.”
For the cartels, Mr. Cruz believes that “the very best thing to happen is Joe Biden becoming president.” He claims that “Joe Biden and open border Democrats have transformed the Mexican drug cartels into international multi-billion dollar empires.” Meanwhile, he laments that “the people of Mexico are victims of these cartels who have become the most powerful force in the nation with tens of billions of dollars behind them.”
“Mexican drug cartels are vicious criminals and murderers,” he asserted. “They’re not viewing the people being trafficked into the country, not as human beings, but as nothing more than cargo.”
Every year, thousands of women are sexually assaulted by human traffickers, and “thousands and thousands of children, little boys and little girls, are brutalized by human traffickers,” he added. As people are trafficked into the United States, Mr. Cruz reveals that “if someone falls sick or falls behind, they are left to die.” He has seen photographs provided by Texas farmers and ranchers, showing “elderly people, toddlers, or pregnant women abandoned by the cartels to die in the heat because they can’t keep up.”
The senator has even witnessed “a dead body floating in the [Rio Grande] River, the body of someone who tried to cross but died.” He points out that 853 migrants died crossing illegally last year.According to Mr. Cruz, there’s a reason President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris have not visited the southern border. He believes that “if they visited the border, reporters would follow with TV cameras and the American people would realize what’s really happening down here.”
The Biden administration claims to seek a more humane immigration system, but Republicans criticize their policies as too lax. They point to record numbers of illegal immigrant crossings and overwhelmed cities.
The White House and the Department of Homeland Security did not respond to requests for comment.A Dangerous Spiral
Despite receiving little support from the White House, Sen. Cruz commends the work of U.S. Customs and Border Patrol in combating illegal immigration, drug trafficking, and human trafficking. He describes them as “American heroes” and ”patriots.”
However, he acknowledges that “morale has never been remotely as low as it is right now.” Working in a harsh environment where they risk their lives dealing with vicious criminals, drug traffickers, and human traffickers takes a toll.
According to Mr. Cruz, apprehending these criminals is futile because “political superiors are allowing these people to be brought in, then turned around and let go to do it all over again the very next day at times.”
Despite the challenges, Sen. Cruz expresses gratitude for the dedication of Border Patrol agents. He believes they are being undermined by political figures in the Biden administration.
