Carville claims Trump administration is ‘collapsing’: ‘It’s over’

Democratic strategist James Carville claimed on Sunday that the Trump administration is “collapsing” and will start bleeding public support in less than a month.

Carville, 80, made the stunning claim in an interview with Mediaite’s Dan Abrams, during which he urged Democrats, who are still searching for a platform following the party’s blowout losses in 2024, to “lay back” and “play possum” while the one-month-old administration is in the middle of a “massive collapse.”

“What I have said very publicly is that Democrats need to play possum. This whole thing is collapsing. … I believe that this administration, in less than 30 days is in the midst of a massive collapse and particularly a collapse in public opinion,” Carville said.

As his proof of this “collapsing,” Carville cited polling on President Donald Trump’s approval rating that he said shows a dramatic decrease by nearly 15 points, from 53% down to 39%. Those figures could not be verified. The most recent polling from Reuters/Ipsos, however, shows a very small decrease in the public’s approval of the president since he entered office in January, ticking down from 47% approval to 44%.

Carville went on to direct his ire at Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) for not heeding his message to the Democrats to lay low, suggesting her and other hard-left lawmakers don’t know when to “shut up.”

“It doesn’t need Elizabeth Warren and somebody screaming to pacify some progressive advocacy groups in Washington, which, by the way, I wish these people were just useless. They’re actually worse than useless, they’re detrimental. And they never, ever learn to shut up,” he said.

He did, though, say Democrats in the House “know exactly what they’re doing” and “exactly what’s going to happen,” particularly in terms of the budget resolution process, which the House will attempt to pass on Tuesday when the bill comes to the floor for a vote.

Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) can only afford to lose one Republican vote on that bill due to the Republicans’ narrow majority, and Carville predicted that any hope of passing it will depend on House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY).
