CatholicVote leader criticizes Dodgers for inviting ‘Queer and Trans Nuns’ to Pride Night again.

Los Angeles Dodgers Re-Invite Drag Troupe to Pride Night, Conservative Catholic Organization Outraged

The Los Angeles Dodgers have re-invited a drag troupe of “queer and trans nuns” to their annual Pride Night celebration in June, prompting outrage from conservative Catholic organization CatholicVote.

“It is just shocking that the Dodgers would choose to honor them,” said Brian Burch, president of CatholicVote. “The team chose instead to slap Catholics in the face as the group engages in sacrilegious behavior fraught with sexual innuendo that mocks the Catholic faith.”

The Dodgers had initially disinvited the activist group, Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence, after they offended Catholics with their drag queens dressed up as nuns. However, under pressure from diverse communities, the team reversed its decision and offered an apology to the group.

“We believe the apology is sincere because the Dodgers have worked for 10 years with our community and as well they have asked us to continue an ongoing relationship with them,” said the Los Angeles Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence in a statement.

CatholicVote has vowed to launch a “barrage” of advertising against the team across Los Angeles and in-game broadcasts, aiming to generate a wave of backlash similar to the Bud Light controversy that stemmed from its partnership with a self-identified transgender social media influencer. Burch believes that the large Hispanic/Latino population in Los Angeles, many of whom are Catholic, will be key to the pressure campaign.
