Cause of Death Revealed for Popular ‘Comicstorian’ YouTuber, Aged 40
The YouTube personality Benny Potter, known as Comicstorian to his followers, tragically died in a single-vehicle car crash in Colorado. He was 40 years old. According to the official statements from the Colorado State Patrol and the Fort Collins Coroner’s Office, the accident occurred when his Toyota 4Runner veered off the right shoulder of I-25 and rolled several times. Potter, who was wearing a seatbelt, died at the scene. Authorities have indicated that drugs, alcohol, or speeding were not believed to be factors in the crash. Potter was celebrated for his engaging YouTube content related to comics, particularly from Marvel and DC universes, amassing over 3 million subscribers and producing more than 4,000 videos over his decade-long career in video-sharing.
The cause of death for YouTube personality Benny Potter, better known to his millions of subscribers as Comicstorian, has been revealed.
The late content creator’s wife announced Saturday that Potter, 40, had died unexpectedly but shared no details beyond that. It has now been made public that the YouTuber died as the result of a single-vehicle car crash in Colorado.
The Colorado State Patrol and the Fort Collins Coroner’s Office both released statements regarding Potter’s death, per The Hollywood Reporter.
The report said Potter was driving southbound on I-25 near mile 267.5 at 9:19 a.m. on June 8 when his Toyota 4Runner drifted off the right shoulder and rolled several times, per the Colorado State Patrol. He died at the scene.
The police noted that Potter was wearing a seatbelt when the car crashed and said no one else was in the vehicle. There were also no other vehicles involved. The report also noted that authorities do not believe drugs, alcohol, or speeding were likely to be reasons for the accident.
Potter became famous on YouTube and boasted more than 3 million subscribers for content focused on comic topics, especially in the Marvel and DC universes. Comicstorian had been a member of the video-sharing community for more than a decade and had posted more than 4,000 videos over that time span.
Potter’s wife, Natalie, initially shared the news of his passing on X.
“To many of you, he was Comicstorian, voicing stories from across multiple different mediums. To his loved ones, he was one of the best and most supportive individuals anyone could ask for,” she wrote.

“As a husband, a son, a brother, a friend, or even just a stranger, Ben was loving and genuine. He was someone who would listen and make time for his loved ones. He would do his best to make everyone laugh and make sure they were okay. He was our rock and he’d reassure his loved ones whenever they needed it,” the YouTube star’s wife added.
“His channel was one of his greatest accomplishments, and while we all need our time to mourn him, I know he wouldn’t want it to end like this,” she wrote, describing her late husband as someone who “spent over 10 years spreading his love and appreciation for his hobbies. It was through his love of exciting stories and well-written characters that got him started on YouTube.”
“The team and I want to keep that going. To honor him by continuing to tell great stories by great people, as well as to keep the memory of our very own superhero alive,” Nathalie wrote at the end of the message. “We supported each other on everything we wanted to do and I’m not about to stop now.”
