CDC Issues Alert After Confirmed Measles Case
The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), stated that thousands may have been affected by measles in recent Kentucky events. an alert March 3,
Kentucky officials confirmed that someone with measles was present at a Wilmore religious gathering during February 17-18.
The gathering attracted around 20,000 participants.
“An undetermined number of these people may have been exposed,” The CDC stated.
People who were present at the event and have not been fully or partially vaccinated against measles are advised by the agency to be quarantined for 21 days in order to stop the spread of the disease.
According to the CDC, people should consider getting vaccinated once the quarantine period has ended.
If certain symptoms are present, such as rash or cough, health care professionals should be able to diagnose measles.
According to the CDC, professionals should suggest the MMR vaccine (measles, mumps and rubella) to all patients. This could happen within 72 hours after exposure.
According to the agency, travelers to other countries should get vaccinated before they travel.
Officials from the CDC stated that they had previously worked with Kentucky Department of Health.
