Cherry blossoms bloom at LEGO Discovery Center in DC – Washington Examiner
The LEGO Finding Center in Washington, D.C. is celebrating the peak bloom of cherry blossoms by enhancing its miniature replica of the city with new LEGO cherry blossom trees. this year, an additional 20 trees made up of 12,200 LEGO bricks were added, taking the master model builder over 45 hours to complete. In addition to this display, the center features a cherry blossom mosaic constructed from more than 94,000 LEGO bricks, which will be showcased at several cherry blossom festivals before arriving at the center in mid-April. The National Cherry Blossom Festival runs until April 14, with peak bloom expected to occur over a weekend in early April. The White House gardens will also be open to visitors during this time, allowing attendees to experience the beauty of spring in D.C.
Cherry blossoms bloom at LEGO Discovery Center for annual festival in DC
The end of March marks the peak bloom of cherry blossom trees in Washington, D.C., and the LEGO Discovery Center is celebrating the occasion by adding its own decorations to its miniature replica of the nation’s capital.
The LEGO cherry blossom trees returned to the center’s Washington, D.C., display from last year, with an extra 20 trees made from 12,200 LEGO bricks being added. The whole project took Andrew Litterst, the center’s master model builder, over 45 hours to complete.
In addition to the trees in the Washington, D.C., replica, the LEGO Discovery Center also has a cherry blossom mosaic built out of over 94,000 LEGO pieces. Prior to heading to the center, however, the display will stop at several cherry blossom festivals, where attendees can add their own touch to the 10-foot wide and 7-foot tall model.
The mosaic will be present at the Blossom Kite Festival at the Washington Monument on Saturday, Petalpalooza in Navy Yard on April 5, and the Springfield Town Center Blossom Festival on April 12.
The final display, which took Litterst over 75 hours to design, will be at the LEGO Discovery Center in mid-April.

For those traveling to Washington, D.C., to view the cherry blossoms, the festival runs through April 14. The National Park Service predicted that peak bloom will last Friday through Monday.
During the various cherry blossom celebrations happening in Washington, D.C., the White House will open its gardens to visitors during the first weekend of April. Guests who wish to visit the White House’s South Lawn and its various gardens can acquire tickets at the White House Visitor Center, with tickets distributed on a first-come, first-serve basis.
