Chicago to Host 2024 Democratic National Convention
The 2024 Democratic National Convention will be held in Chicago, from August 19 to 22 at the United Center.
President Joe Biden expressed his approval of this choice on the Democratic National Committee’s website, stating, “Chicago is a great choice to host the 2024 Democratic National Convention.”
Although the President has not made a formal announcement about running for a second term in 2024, he has indicated that he plans to do so. If he were to be reelected, he would be 86 years old at the end of his second term, making him the oldest President in history to hold office.
During the Democratic National Committee’s winter meeting in February, a resolution was passed unanimously, declaring “full and complete support” for a second term for President Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris.
As of now, no Democrat holding an office has announced their candidacy for the 2024 presidential race.
The White House-sponsored “Investing in America” tour is promoting infrastructure bill, Inflation Reduction Act, CHIPS and Science Act and other legislation signed into law by President Biden, as he and his administration travels across the United States.
The Democratic National Committee considers Chicago a stronghold in the Midwestern “Blue Wall” states of Illinois, Wisconsin, Michigan and Minnesota, all of which reelected Democratic governors in 2020.
Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker stated, “The 2024 Democratic National Convention in Chicago will welcome people from across the nation to an unforgettable event highlighting our party’s vision for lifting up working families and those who too often have been left out and left behind.”
According to reports, Pritzker, along with Senator Tammy Duckworth (D-Ill.), who is a DNC co-chair, and the former Mayor of Chicago, Lori Lightfoot, spent over a year campaigning for Chicago to be selected as the location for the convention.
Mayor Lightfoot lost her bid for re-election to the Mayor-elect, Brandon Johnson. However, she is still proud that her city was chosen to host the convention. She stated, “I want to commend all the city government leaders who demonstrated with a proven track record of excellence that by choosing Chicago, the DNC, convention delegates, volunteers, and others would be treated to a first-class experience in our world-class city.”
During June 2022, Pritzker and Lightfoot went to Washington and were accompanied by state officials to campaign for Chicago to be selected as the location of the 2024 Democratic National Convention.
