“I know very, very well what happened during the Cultural Revolution. … They rewrote history, and then they fed us, the young people, the fictional history, for the indoctrination for control [of] mind. She’s doing exactly the same thing,” Van Fleet said the Washington Examiner.
Van Fleet attracted new attention after sparring with 1619 Project Nikole Henderson-Jones, the creator of the Twitter account Nikole Hannah Jones claimed that black people are present in the U.S. “greatest rebuke to the narrative of American exceptionalism.”
“Someone asked me why is Black history, specifically, being targeted. I said it’s because our history has always been political *by definition*: Our very presence on these lands is the greatest rebuke to the narrative of American exceptionalism. We give lie to the lie,” Hannah Jones tweeted in three parts Sunday.
Hannah Jones’s fame stems from a number of essays published in 1619 that suggested the British colonists established the U.S. as a way to preserve slavery.
Van Fleet strongly refuted Hannah Jones’s statement about blacks in America, which rebukes the American narrative of American exceptionalism. She argued that there is no evidence of immigrant presence. “proof of American Exceptionalism” It is not a refutation.
“Yourself and I, an immigrant from China with 200 borrowed dollars in my pocket when I arrived more than 30 yrs ago, are the proof of American Exceptionalism,” In a Twitter, she refuted the claim.
Myself, an immigrant hailing from China who arrived in America with $200 borrowed money, and you, the American example of American Exceptionalism, stand before it all.
