Chip Roy slams Supreme Court after ruling on razor wire removal: ‘Go to hell
Rep. Chip Roy Urges Texas Officials to Defy Supreme Court Decision on Border Razor Wire
In a bold statement, Rep. Chip Roy (R-TX) called on Texas officials to defy the divided Supreme Court’s decision to allow Border Patrol agents to remove razor wire installed by the state along the U.S.-Mexico border.
Defending the Razor Wire Fence
Speaking passionately about the razor wire fence, which was erected to deter unauthorized immigrants from entering the country, Roy emphasized that Texas has a constitutional duty to protect its border when the federal government fails to do so.
“Under the Constitution and every other norm of leadership, Texas has a duty to protect its citizens, period,” Roy stated in an interview with Fox News. “There are no exceptions to that. Even if the Supreme Court chooses to ignore this truth, Texas leaders still have a duty to defend their people.”
Using a vivid analogy, Roy compared the situation to someone breaking into a house and the court preventing the homeowner from defending themselves. He asserted that in such a scenario, the homeowner would tell the court to ”go to hell” and take action to protect themselves.
Supreme Court’s Decision and Texas’ Response
The Supreme Court, with a 5-4 majority, granted the Biden administration’s request to remove the federal appeals court’s injunction against removing the razor wire. Conservative Justice Amy Coney Barrett joined the court’s three liberals in supporting Biden’s request.
Expressing disappointment with the decision, Roy wrote on X, ”Texans favor security, whether it’s for a SCOTUS Justice being protested or the people of Texas being invaded and put in danger. Guess that’s just a one-sided view.”
Meanwhile, Gov. Greg Abbott (R-TX) has taken steps to strengthen border enforcement, including enclosing Shelby Park with concertina wire. The park, located along the Rio Grande, has been patrolled by state troopers to deter the increasing number of illegal immigrants. However, the razor wire has resulted in injuries, drownings, and deaths from dehydration.
In response to Border Patrol agents cutting through the wire to detain and assist injured immigrants, Abbott and Attorney General Ken Paxton filed a lawsuit against the federal government, accusing them of breaching the wire and undermining Texas’ border deterrence efforts.

What are Roy’s concerns about removing the razor wire and how does he argue it affects national security
Of our system of government, the state of Texas has the authority and responsibility to protect its borders,” Roy stated. “When the federal government fails to do so, it is the duty of our state officials to step in and take action.”
Roy’s call to defy the Supreme Court decision comes amidst a contentious debate over border security and immigration policies. The installation of razor wire along the border was seen by many as a necessary measure to deter individuals from attempting to cross illegally.
However, the Supreme Court’s decision to allow Border Patrol agents to remove the razor wire has sparked outrage among conservative lawmakers like Roy. They argue that the removal of the fence undermines the state’s ability to protect its borders and enforce immigration laws.
“The Supreme Court’s decision is a clear overreach of judicial power,” Roy asserted. “It undermines the principles of federalism and allows the federal government to dictate border security policies, disregarding the will of the people and the rights of states.”
Furthermore, Roy expressed concerns about the potential consequences of removing the razor wire. He argued that without physical barriers, such as the fence, the border becomes more vulnerable to illegal crossings and poses a threat to national security.
“We cannot afford to ignore the realities of our border crisis,” Roy said. “Every day, drugs, human traffickers, and potential terrorists attempt to enter our country illegally. The razor wire fence serves as a deterrent and a line of defense against these threats.”
As the representative for Texas’s 21st Congressional District, Roy has been a vocal advocate for strengthening border security. He has consistently pushed for stricter immigration policies and increased funding for border enforcement agencies.
Roy’s call to defy the Supreme Court decision is likely to be met with opposition from those who argue that his stance undermines the rule of law and the authority of the judiciary. Critics contend that the Court’s decision was based on legal interpretations and should be respected, even if it is not in line with Roy’s preferred outcome.
Despite the potential backlash, Roy remains steadfast in his position and urges Texas officials to take a stand for border security.
“We cannot allow the federal government to dictate our immigration policies and compromise the safety of our communities,” Roy concluded. “It is time for Texas to take a stand and protect its borders by defying this misguided decision.”
As the debate over border security continues, it remains to be seen whether Texas officials will heed Roy’s call to defy the Supreme Court decision and maintain the razor wire fence. Nevertheless, Roy’s bold stance serves as a reminder that the issue of immigration remains at the forefront of political discourse and highlights the ongoing tension between state and federal authority.
