Chris Christie joins GOP presidential candidates in unexpected visit to Ukraine.
Republican Candidate Chris Christie Visits Ukraine to Show Support in the War Against Russia
Republican presidential candidate Chris Christie made an unannounced visit to Ukraine on Friday, becoming the second GOP contender to meet with President Volodymyr Zelensky.
While in Kyiv, Christie expressed his unwavering support to Zelensky as his country wages a war with Russia, NBC News reported. Christie’s trip also included stops in Bucha and Moshchun, two cities that have witnessed intense fighting between the two warring nations.

“I am an advocate for there being more aid to Ukraine,” Christie said, according to information provided in a pool report. The former New Jersey governor firmly believes that increased U.S. aid would significantly contribute to Ukraine’s ability to overcome Russia in the ongoing conflict.
Similarly, former Vice President Mike Pence visited Ukraine in late June to discuss the human rights atrocities committed by Russia with Zelensky, as previously reported by the Washington Examiner. Pence was the first 2024 Republican presidential candidate to take this step.
As the Republican primary season approaches, Christie has become increasingly vocal about America’s role in supporting Ukraine. He stated last month that if elected president, he would provide “every weapon they need to be able to win,” according to the Hill.
“I don’t think there’s anyone in our country who would come here and see this and not think this is the kind of thing we need to stand up and prevent,” the GOP candidate passionately expressed on Friday. “We need to give them the means necessary to fight.”

During Christie’s visit, Zelensky reportedly emphasized the importance of the United States being on the right side of the conflict.
Both Christie and Pence have shown their support for increased aid to Ukraine, setting them apart from their top two political rivals, former President Donald Trump and Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL). Former Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley and Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC) also advocate for backing Ukraine.
