Chris Christie: I Would Have Pushed Back on Tucker Carlson
Republican presidential candidate and former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie revealed in a recent interview that he would have taken a stand against Tucker Carlson’s views on the war in Ukraine. Christie expressed his regret for not attending an event hosted by Carlson in Iowa, where the topic was discussed.
During the event, Carlson questioned six Republican presidential candidates about the war in Ukraine. Notably, Christie, former President Donald Trump, and North Dakota Governor Doug Burgum were absent.
Christie’s Response to Russia’s Invasion of Ukraine
On ABC News’ “This Week” with George Stephanopoulos, Christie was asked about his stance on Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and how he would have responded to Carlson’s question.
“I would have firmly stated, ’Tucker, you’ve always been wrong about this, and you’re still wrong,'” Christie confidently told Stephanopoulos. “The truth is, George, what we’re witnessing is a proxy war with China. The Chinese are fueling the Russian war through their purchase of Russian oil. They are collaborating with the Iranians to supply lethal weapons to the Russian army.”
Christie emphasized the importance of supporting Ukraine in its fight against Russia. He stated, “We have the power to determine when this conflict occurs. Currently, the Ukrainians are willing to fight for their freedom with our backing. If we retreat from Ukraine, as advocated by Tucker Carlson and others, mark my words, Taiwan will be the next target.”
According to Christie, his belief in supporting Ukraine is reinforced by polling data and conversations with voters. He asserted, “A majority of Republicans want us to stand with Ukraine because these brave individuals are fighting for their own liberty and weakening the Russian army. It also sends a strong message to China.”
