Chris Cuomo argues voters are ‘strangled by the money reality’ of the ‘uniparty’ – Washington Examiner

Chris Cuomo, anchor for NewsNation, criticized both Democrats and Republicans for their failure to genuinely address the influence of wealth in politics. During the Democratic⁣ National Convention, he highlighted a prevalent theme about going ⁤after corporate greed but pointed out the stark reality that many attendees, who are everyday workers, are overshadowed by wealthy elites in power, visible from the expensive suites surrounding the convention.‍ Cuomo emphasized that ‍both parties are constrained⁢ by “the money reality” in politics and warned against taking politicians’ promises to combat the rich at face value, calling the notion nearly laughable. He urged voters to be cautious and discerning about political commitments, noting that substantial fundraising efforts by politicians,⁣ including Donald Trump, illustrate the deep ⁤entrenchment ‌of money in political processes.

Chris Cuomo argues voters are ‘strangled by the money reality’ of the ‘uniparty’

NewsNation anchor Chris Cuomo knocked Democrats and Republicans for their promises to go after the wealthy, arguing both parties are powered by the elites they claim to be going after.

Cuomo was attending the Democratic National Convention when he stated that “a big theme” at the event is how Democrats will go after “corporate-gouging,” and how Republicans made similar promises at their convention last month. He added that most people attending these conventions are everyday workers who “need to be charged up” whenever they attend these rallies and conventions.

“But there is another reality that is literally looking down on them. Greg, look at the ring of suites, ok?” Cuomo said on NewsNation, motioning to his cameraman. “This is not unique to Democrats. There is a game of money. When people talk about uniparty, we are strangled by the money reality in our politics. Those suites start at $500 grand!”

Cuomo argued the wealthy people at the DNC are “literally looking down” upon the voters who “make the difference in their communities.” He argued that this is the “reality of politics,” and cautioned people to be wary of politicians who promise to crack down on the rich.

“The idea that they can fight against it is almost laughable!” Cuomo said. “It’s almost laughable, so look, look, and listen when you are told these things because I don’t care what they promise you. Not here tonight, not at the RNC, not that Trump knows them, not that they don’t own them; he did one of the biggest fundraisers I’ve ever heard of in my life out where I live. Millions of dollars at play, that’s the reality of politics.”

Earlier this year, Cuomo predicted that former President Donald Trump would win the 2024 election against President Joe Biden, as he had “never been to rallies” with support for a candidate like the ones he had seen at Trump. Since then, Biden has bowed out of his reelection bid and endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris.

The former CNN anchor indicated last year that he was open to voting for Trump over Biden, but that he would “really have to see where we are at that moment in time” before casting his ballot.

While Harris has seen an uptick in support since stepping in for Biden as the Democratic Party’s 2024 candidate, her campaign’s chairwoman has cautioned against celebrating too early, as she believes the election is still a toss-up. Former Obama adviser David Axelrod has similarly put a caution on Harris’s electability, arguing the 2024 race is still “absolutely” Trump’s to lose.
