Sununu to Decide on 2024 Run Soon

New Hampshire Governor Chris Sununu Considers 2024 GOP Presidential Run

New Hampshire Governor Chris Sununu is considering a run for the 2024 GOP presidential nomination. In an interview with CNN’s “State of the Union” program on May 28, Sununu said he will make a decision “in the next week or two.” He added that when he decides to do something, he is “120 percent in.”

“The money’s been lined up, the support’s been lined up, there’s a pathway to win. All those boxes are checked. The family is on board, which is always a big one. I just gotta make sure it’s right to the party and right for me.”

Despite the crowded field, Sununu believes there is still a pathway for him to win the nomination. He passed on a Senate run last year to seek another term as governor instead, saying he would rather “deliver wins for New Hampshire” than “debate partisan politics without results” in Washington.

Thinking About What’s Best for the Party

Sununu’s name has been floated as a possible presidential candidate for some time. He hinted in April that he would decide on a run “by late June at the latest.” However, he recently said there is only a “61 percent” chance he will make a bid for the White House.

“I want more candidates to be empowered. Can I do that more effectively as a candidate? Can I do that more effectively as someone who’s kind of traveling the country, maybe speaking a little more freely? I just want what’s best for the party. It doesn’t have to be the Chris Sununu show all the time.”

Currently, former President Donald Trump remains the front-runner for the GOP nomination. However, Sununu believes there is still room for more candidates to enter the race and be empowered. He is considering what would be the best way for him to serve his party and make a positive impact.

Other Candidates in the Race

Several other candidates have already entered the race for the GOP nomination, including Florida Governor Ron DeSantis and South Carolina Senator Tim Scott. Former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley, biotech entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy, and former Arkansas Governor Asa Hutchinson are also running.

As the race for the GOP nomination heats up, it remains to be seen whether Sununu will throw his hat in the ring. For now, he is focused on making the best decision for himself and his party.
