Sarah Young, Author of “Jesus Calling,” Passes Away at 77
Sarah Young, the beloved author of the Christian devotional book “Jesus Calling: Enjoying Peace in His Presence,” has passed away at the age of 77. Her death comes just days after reports surfaced about her declining health.
Young’s publisher, Thomas Nelson, shared the heartbreaking news on social media, asking for prayers for Sarah and her family. They emphasized her strong belief in the power of prayer and her dedication to praying for her readers every morning.

While the exact cause of her death remains unclear, Young had previously shared her struggles with health issues. In a 2015 interview, she revealed her battle with Lyme disease and chronic dizziness, which had persisted for over a decade. Despite her health challenges, Young maintained hope for improvement and recognized the ways in which God had used her difficult times for good.
Young gained widespread recognition for her devotional book, “Jesus Calling,” published in 2004. The book presents itself as a personal conversation between Jesus and the reader, offering words of encouragement and inspiration.
Before becoming an author, Young and her husband served as missionaries in Japan and Western Australia. She earned a master’s degree in biblical studies and counseling from Covenant Theological Seminary.
In addition to “Jesus Calling,” Young authored several other books, including “Jesus Always” and “Jesus Listens,” as well as various storybooks and children’s devotionals. Her works have been translated into over 30 languages and have sold more than 45 million copies worldwide.
Mark Schoenwald, president and CEO of HarperCollins Christian Publishing, expressed his gratitude for having Young as part of their publishing family. He acknowledged the profound impact her words have had on people’s lives and the lasting legacy she leaves behind.
A memorial service for Sarah Young will be held on September 9 at Christ Presbyterian Church in Nashville, Tennessee. She is survived by her husband, two children, and six grandchildren.
