Christie warns of Republican Party’s doom with Trump’s March trial.

Former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie Predicts Disastrous Trial Date for Trump

Former New Jersey Gov.⁣ Chris Christie has made a bold prediction regarding the trial of former President Donald Trump. Christie warns that the trial, set to begin jury selection on March‌ 4, will have disastrous consequences for the ⁣Republican Party.

According to Christie, this trial⁢ will force Trump to spend a significant amount of time in court instead of on the campaign trail during a crucial ⁣period in the election cycle. It is worth noting that⁢ the trial is scheduled to commence just one day before Super Tuesday.

Concerns for Republican⁣ Voters

Christie expressed ‍his concerns for ‍Republican voters, emphasizing that their potential presidential candidate will‍ be tied up in a courtroom in Washington, D.C. for four to six weeks, starting from March 4. This, he believes, will ⁤hinder Trump’s ability to⁣ campaign against President Joe Biden, ultimately spelling disaster for the Republican Party.

Furthermore, Christie, who is ‍also running for the GOP nomination, questioned Trump’s suitability as the party’s nominee due to his alleged “personal conduct” and crimes. While acknowledging the⁣ realism of the March 4 trial date, Christie speculated that special counsel Jack Smith may have‍ charged Trump alone to expedite the trial process.

Setting the Trial Date

District Judge Tanya Chutkan was responsible for selecting the trial date. Smith’s team⁤ requested a trial date of January 2, 2024, while Trump’s ⁤team recommended starting the trial in April 2026. Ultimately, the trial date ⁣was set for⁤ March ⁤4.‍ It is important ⁢to note that this case is just one of four against the former president, who is currently the front-runner for the GOP nomination.

Trump pleaded not guilty on August‍ 3⁤ to four federal ⁢felony charges related to Smith’s accusations of attempting to overturn the 2020 election, which ultimately led to the January 6 Capitol riot. Additionally, Trump‍ faces indictments‌ in New York and Georgia, with a total of 40 felony charges related to the mishandling of ⁤classified documents at his Mar-a-Lago resort ⁣in Florida after leaving the Oval Office. Throughout all these cases, Trump maintains his ⁣innocence.
