CIA whistleblower claims agency paid COVID discovery team to manipulate Wuhan lab findings.
New Whistleblower Testimony Alleges CIA Bribed Officers to Conceal COVID-19 Origins
In a shocking revelation, new whistleblower testimony presented to Congress claims that the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) resorted to bribery to suppress the conclusion that COVID-19 likely originated from a Chinese lab. The testimony, provided by an anonymous and highly credible senior-level CIA official, alleges that six members of the agency’s investigative team were offered hush money to change their narrative on the virus.
The Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Pandemic and Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, comprising U.S. House lawmakers, expressed their concerns about the matter. They revealed that the six officers, who possessed significant scientific expertise, had initially determined that the virus originated in a Wuhan laboratory. However, after their findings, the CIA whistleblower claims that financial incentives were provided to these experts to alter their position on the virus.
“According to the whistleblower, at the end of its review, six of the seven members of the Team believed the intelligence and science were sufficient to make a low confidence assessment that COVID-19 originated from a laboratory in Wuhan, China,” House panel chairmen reps. Brad Wenstrup (R-OH) and Mike Turner (R-OH) wrote.
The lone officer who disagreed with the lab theory believed that COVID-19 originated through zoonosis. The whistleblower further contends that the other six members were given a significant monetary incentive to change their position, leading to the eventual public determination of uncertainty.
The committee has taken action by sending a letter to former CIA chief operating officer Andrew Markridis, requesting his participation in a voluntary transcribed interview. Markridis, who played a central role in the formation and conclusion of the COVID investigation, retired from the agency in 2022 after overseeing its response to the pandemic.
Lawmakers have also set a deadline for the CIA to provide all records related to the establishment of the COVID Discovery Teams, including pay history and communications with other federal government agencies such as the FBI, State Department, Department of Energy, and Health and Human Services.

The Department of Energy and the FBI were among the first federal agencies to suggest, with moderate confidence, that the origins of the pandemic were likely linked to a potential lab incident in Wuhan. In June, the Office of the Director of National Intelligence declassified a report that explored potential connections between the Wuhan Institute of Virology and COVID’s origins. The report stated that while three lab workers fell ill in 2019, their symptoms were not directly diagnostic of COVID-19.
Former Director of National Intelligence John Ratcliffe testified before Congress, asserting that a lab leak is the only explanation supported by intelligence, science, and common sense. Ratcliffe emphasized that the evidence favoring a lab leak is substantial, while the support for a natural origins or spillover theory is weak.
