Clarence Thomas responds to accusations about undisclosed gifts amid outcry
Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas defended not disclosing that he accepted “luxury trips” and other gifts from a Republican mega-donor in a statement Friday.
In a joint statement with his wife Ginni Thomas, the Supreme Court justice stated that he” was advised” not to reveal the trips.

” Harlan and Kathy Crow are among our closest friends, and we have known each other for more than 25 year.” We have traveled with them on several family outings over the course of the more than 25 years we have known them, as colleagues do, the statement read. ” At the beginning of my tenure at the Court, I sought advice from my coworkers and others in the court, and I was told that this kind of personal kindness from close personal friends, who did not have company before the court, was neither actionable.”

It continued,” I have made an effort to follow that counsel throughout my career and have always tried to abide by the revelation instructions.” The Judicial Conference committee in charge of financial reporting for the entire national courts just this past fortnight announced new guidance, so these instructions are now being changed. And it goes without saying that I intend to heed this advice in the future.
