CNN’s Harry Enten says ‘truly worrying’ economic polling shows ‘clear movement’ toward Kamala Harris – Washington Examiner

CNN senior data reporter Harry Enten expressed concern⁤ over new polling data indicating‌ a shift in voter sentiment that could benefit Vice President Kamala‌ Harris in her potential matchup against former President Donald Trump. Analyzing recent ⁤surveys from key battleground states, Enten underscored the⁤ importance of economic trust⁢ among voters, emphasizing that the economy remains a critical issue in the political landscape.

In a comparison between ⁢polls from July and August, a notable change was observed where support for Harris surged by 7 percentage points to 42%, overtaking Trump’s 41% ⁤on ‍economic trust. Enten highlighted⁣ that this shift suggests a tightening race,‌ as⁤ multiple polls indicate that Trump’s lead has diminished. The analysis asserts that ⁤even though Trump has historically touted economic‍ credentials, Harris’s increasing favorability in this area signals a ‌”truly worrying” trend for his campaign.

CNN’s Harry Enten says ‘truly worrying’ economic polling shows ‘clear movement’ toward Kamala Harris

CNN senior data reporter Harry Enten analyzed new polling across three battleground state polls and said former President Donald Trump should find the polls to be “worrying” in his campaign against his Democratic rival, Vice President Kamala Harris.

“You know, the economy, the economy, the economy — it’s the economy, stupid,” Enten said on Monday as he looked at new polling.

He called the issue of the economy “Donald Trump’s bread and butter” over his former opponent, President Joe Biden. Enten compared July and August in a poll released Monday by the Financial Times and the University of Michigan’s Ross School of Business that showed Harris leading on the topic.

In the new poll, 35% of registered voters said in July that they trusted Biden more than Trump to handle the economy, while 41% threw their support behind the GOP nominee. The August polling now shows a 7-percentage-point boost for Harris following Biden’s decision to drop out as 42% support the vice president on the economy, while support for the former president remains at 41%.

“Look at the 42% that trust Harris more on economic issues than Trump at 41%. And the movement here, Jim, is key,” Enten said.

“Why is the movement here key?” he asked on Monday, adding that “multiple polls” show that the Republican presidential nominee’s lead has shrunk.

“Now we have a race within the margin of error on the economy,” Enten said to his colleague, Jim Acosta.

Enten pointed to a recent New York Times and Siena College poll, which showed a surge for Harris across the three states of Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, and Michigan between Monday and Friday. The vice president gained 8 points in Michigan, 13 points in Pennsylvania, and 11 points in Wisconsin among likely voters.

The former analyst for the website FiveThirtyEight said the polling shows “a reversal of situations” in the matchup between Trump and Harris.

“It’s not just on those top-line issues. It’s underneath the hood, and that’s what should be truly worrying to the Trump campaign, especially on the economy,” Enten said to Acosta.

Acosta called the poll shift “remarkable” and a “completely changed race now.”

Harris is set to share her economic plans this week and discuss her efforts to lower costs in America.
