Comedian Chrissie Mayr Cancels Gigs In California Over ‘Discriminating’ Vaccine Requirements
Comedian Chrissie Mayr canceled four of her shows scheduled to take place in California next month over local orders mandating so-called “vaccination passports.”
“CALIFORNIA! Due to the new COVID PASSPORT mandates in LA County & City of Santa Monica, my shows in October will not be happening. I do not believe in discriminating by personal medical decisions. Please continue to stand up for your rights no matter how unpopular they seem!” Mayr tweeted on Sunday.

Mayr had planned to do four shows in Santa Monica, California, on the 22 and 23. She is at least the second comedian to cancel gigs over local COVID orders. “Saturday Night Live” alum Jim Breuer announced the cancelation of two shows last week over the venues’ policies of mandating vaccinations for attendees.
“Two quick updates on shows that you may think you may be getting tickets to or you already have tickets to: The Wellmont Theater in New Jersey — not doing it,” Breuer said during a Facebook Live video last week. “Also the Royal Oak Theater in Michigan, due to the segregation of them forcing people to show up with vaccinations … I am also not doing those shows.”
“I know I’m going to sacrifice a lot of money, but I’m not going to be enslaved to the system or money,” Breuer continued.
The comedian said that he believes that receiving the COVID vaccine should be a “choice” and that his fans should not be “forced” into getting vaccinated to come to his shows.
The manager of one of the venues, The Wellmont Theater, said that the venue was sticking by its policy despite Breuer’s cancelation.
“Our policy is put in place to protect the concertgoer, the artist and the employees of the theater alike. We wish Mr. Breuer well and hope to see him at the Wellmont Theater down the road,” General Manager Anthony Morrison said.
In July, singer Eric Clapton slammed vaccine requirements and said that he would not perform anywhere COVID “passports” or vaccine requirements are in place. Clapton was responding to an announcement by U.K. Prime Minister Boris Johnson. Johnson had announced that starting in September, all Britons must show proof of vaccination to enter nightclubs or other crowded venues and events.
“Following the PM’s announcement on Monday the 19th of July 2021, I feel honour bound to make an announcement of my own: I wish to say that I will not perform on any stage where there is a discriminated audience present,” Clapton said in a statement. “Unless there is provision made for all people to attend, I reserve the right to cancel the show.”
Clapton won praise from conservatives for his announcement. As The Daily Wire reported:
Conservatives applauded Clapton’s stance, with Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) tweeting, “Artists should defend individual Liberty. I very much support vaccines, but it should be your choice—not forced upon you.”
Blaze podcast host Steve Deace said, “Eric Clapton is basically Patrick Henry now.”
Finally, British journalist and filmmaker Sonia Poulton thanked Clapton and “all musicians who show true integrity by refusing to perform at venues using a totalitarian system of entry.” She added, “It’s impossible for me to respect those going along with this. Human & artistic sell outs controlled by the Govt.”
