Comic Sam Morril Rages Against Big Tech Censorship
You don’t have to be a conservative comic to feel Big Tech’s wrath.
Comedian Tyler Fischer isn’t openly Left or Right. He’s a free thinker who bounces from Biden to Trump impressions on stage.
He still felt Big Tech’s wrath His hilarious Dr. Anthony Fauci impressions.
Ryan Long is a comic artist whose humor is aggressively apolitical. felt that censorial bite.
Sam Morril, comedian, has just joined the canceled club.
Morril is a rising star within comedy circles. He may lean towards the Left, but he offers a balanced presentation on-stage. His first Netflix special was a success. “Same Time Tomorrow,” Last year, and is now selling out clubs on his current “Class Act” tour.
He even snared a coveted interview on the “Joe Rogan Experience” in 2022.
He’s R-rated, no doubt, and while he dabbles in culture war issues he doesn’t pledge allegiance to either side of the aisle. He’s quick to poke the woke Left, and in the next breath embrace a progressive narrative.
Morril has just learned that certain jokes are not allowed on major platforms. Elon Musk, a free-speech friend, shared a heated Twitter message about a small comedy piece that was pulled by Team Instagram.
He’s not happy, nor should he be.
This is how you build a following on these applications and keep pushing the goal posts in. This is an inoffensive joke. “bullying and harassment.” Our free content is a goldmine for bullshit apps. They then act as hall monitors. pic.twitter.com/CGng0Io22X

He makes some important points. The vague guidelines used by social media giants are infuriating, and they’re purposely fuzzy enough to allow for a greater range of censorship.
This approach is used by authoritarians to persuade citizens to self-censor. It works.
Today’s comedians need social media to support their careers. Instagram, Facebook, Twitter and Twitter are the most popular platforms for stand-up comedians to promote their shows, grow their followings, and try out new material.
Instagram and its co. need creators like Morril in order to stock their digital shelves. It’s hypocritical for the same tech giants to arbitrarily claim a specific sketch or image is off-limits. And, as is often the case, there’s little chance for appeal or clarity on the matter.
Big Tech censorship is inextricably linked to Cancel Culture, a scourge against free expression.
Some comedians believe Cancel Culture to be a myth. Chelsea Handler believes a comedian should not be allowed to use Cancel Culture. stop being racist And he or she’ll be fine. Marc Maron believes comedians who crow about censorship are a laughing stock are the problemNot the censors.
Morril won’t be the last comedian to find his work censored on social media. Big Tech’s censorial policies will be reexamined if more comedians discuss it.
