Comics Attack Tucker Carlson For Defending Comedy (Really)
Nimesh Patel is living proof of Cancel Culture.
Three university employees pulled the Indian-American comedian off stage at Columbia University’s 2018 show because he was a comic. He objected at one of his gags.
Patel joked that gay people cannot choose because they are not allowed to be homosexual. “no one looks in the mirror and thinks, “This black thing is too easy; let me just add another thing to it.’” AAA members interrupted the performance to denounce his material regarding racial identity and sexual orientation. Patel responded by saying that none of his jokes were offensive. Patel claimed he was just exposing the audience’s to ideas that could be found. “in the real world.” Patel’s microphone was cut from offstage and he exited.
It didn’t matter that Patel is a comedian of color, nor that his joke exposed cultural racism. He got the boot.
You might think Patel would cheer on Fox News superstar Tucker Carlson’s special, “The Death of Comedy,” This report examines how Cancel Culture can crush creativity and expose people to danger in extreme cases.
It’s not so quick.
Patel took to social media quickly to blast Carlson for including the incident from his college in the special. Repeatedly.
Attention: This is an adult language warning:
This is absurd. Comedy is alive and well. There was a reason I didn’t do @TuckerCarlson back 2018 – no one here is a martyr for comedy. This trailer has everyone making $$$, a fortune. Stop the fake victim BS. https://t.co/VoewxW61Gw

Patel was not a fan of the scolds that ended his 2018 university showcase.
Funny, eh?
The Daily Beast is a far-Left outlet which apparently cheers for Cancel Culture. reported on other comics who took Patel’s sideLaurie Kilmartin (with Jena Friedman, Troy Bond, and Troy Bond).
Why? Why would comedians attack Carlson?
Blame tribalism, with a side order fear.

Carlson is the boogeyman of many liberal dyed in the wool. They dislike him and would support his expulsion from cable television, if that were possible. Even if Fox News host defends their existence, he must be ridiculed.
That’s how divided we are as a nation.
There’s another factor in play, of course. Today’s comedians fear Cancel CultureAnd with good reason. Performers are highly valued. Stephen Colbert And Marc Maron Could be cancelled tomorrow if some of the older members of the woke mob are resurrected. You can find more troublesome material.
They could slam Cancel Culture. But doing so might lead to the mob turning on them. They tell everybody. “proper” Jokes, Attack all “acceptable” You can pray that no one finds their comic past.
The irony couldn’t be richer.

“The Death of Comedy” trailer makes a powerful case that comedy is, indeed, under attack in today’s woke culture. From Will Smith attacking Chris Rock for a joke to Dave Chappelle being tackled on stage at a Hollywood Bowl appearance, comic after comic is physically attacked.
That’s just the physical side of Cancel Culture. A lot of audience members become outraged when comedians tell offensive jokes. They’re triggered, and they have the cultural power to punish stand-ups who make them uneasy.

That’s where comedy stands in 2023. It’s not dead, at least not yet, but comedians must self-censor lest their next gig be their lasts.
Ask! Desus & Mero.
It’s funny, but not in that ha-ha way, that some would rather attack the person defending their craft than those willing to shut it down.
