Student cut from graduation for stating two genders, community outraged, school taking drastic action.

Student Suspended from Graduation for Affirming Traditional View of Gender

At Kellogg High School in Kellog, Idaho, 18-year-old Travis Lohr faced consequences for expressing his belief in the traditional view of male and female during a recent assembly where graduating seniors were meant to give parting words of wisdom to underclassmen.

After school officials told Lohr he wasn’t allowed to say that “guys are guys and girls are girls,” he chose to share the statement anyway, resulting in his suspension from the graduation ceremony.

Despite protests from over 100 parents and students, Kellogg High School stood by its decision, even postponing the graduation ceremony due to safety concerns.

Standing by His Beliefs

Despite the controversy, Lohr stands by his beliefs and his right to express them. “I don’t believe that I should be punished for what I said. I wasn’t directing it at anybody or any groups, it’s just something that I believe in,” Lohr told the Shoshone News-Press.

“There’s a lot of support for other genders and other groups, but yet I don’t see any support for people who just believe in two (genders). I don’t have any hatred toward gay people or transgenders — just like I hope they wouldn’t have any resentment toward me for believing what I believe.”

Support from the Community

Lohr’s suspension sparked a walkout by students and protests from parents, with many expressing their support for Lohr’s right to express his beliefs.

“It’s more that people took it the wrong way. Everyone can speak freely, I can’t see why I can’t voice my opinion,” Lohr said.

Conclusion

Travis Lohr’s suspension from graduation for expressing his belief in the traditional view of gender has sparked controversy and protests from the community. Despite the school’s decision, Lohr stands by his beliefs and his right to express them.
