Classical education booms as woke curriculum grows: Hillsdale College experiences a 53% increase in application
According to the U.S. Census Bureau’s data, the enrollment at colleges has dropped by approximately 13%. Many colleges are struggling to attract students. However, faith-based universities are experiencing a boom of applications. They favor the classical curriculum over woke ideologies.
Jeremy Tate, founder and CEO of Classic Learning Test (CLT), outlined his vision. “Fox & Friends Weekend” Saturday: How classical education gives many colleges in the U.S. an advantage over others
“If you’re watching this, and you graduated college in the sixties or seventies, then you probably took U.S. history or economics or Western civilization. But those days are long gone. Many colleges now have gone to kind of an al-la-carte model. But there’s a narrow band,” He stated, “that schools like the University of Dallas, Franciscan, Benedictine, Hillsdale Grove City College that have maintained and sometimes double down on a traditional core curriculum.”
Tate stated that colleges and universities are increasingly adopting woke ideologies, and curriculas. This has led to a rise in applications for faith-based colleges that still use a core, traditional curriculum.
Hillsdale College had, for instance, seen a 53% increase of applications by April 2022.
“The story of American higher ed really for the past half century has been a story of one college after another really trashing any kind of a serious core curriculum,” He said.
All new students at the State University of New York will be required to take courses in social justice and equity, equity, inclusion, starting in fall 2023.
