Conservatives Need To Be Producers, Not Just Consumers
Target used to be one of our favorite stores, but that all changed when they started selling chest binders and male genital underwear to young girls who are still figuring things out. Needless to say, we haven’t shopped there since.
It’s important to vote with your dollar, but even if you shop at all the “right” places, you can still fall victim to the negative effects of consumerism.
So what exactly is consumerism? It’s the constant desire to consume rather than create. While we all need to consume to some extent, we weren’t meant to be completely self-reliant. We were made to rely on others socially, economically, and spiritually.
But here’s the problem: the conservative movement has become consumed by consumerism. We think that if we just elect the right president or get rid of Biden, all our problems will magically disappear. But that’s not realistic. Instead, we need to take practical steps to improve our own communities.
For example, I started my own counseling business because I saw a lack of conservative Christians being open about their values in the counseling field. Instead of just complaining about it, I decided to do something about it. And you can too. Are you unhappy with your school board or what your kids are being taught? Run for school board or attend city council meetings to voice your concerns. Talk to your children about trans issues. Don’t just complain, take action.
If you’re not sure what to do, ask yourself “What can I do about it?” and then do it. Don’t wait for the perfect answer, just take action. And if there’s nothing you can do, then let it go and focus on something productive. Venting is okay, but don’t let it consume you.
Being a producer doesn’t necessarily mean making products for money. It means producing memories, laughter, and community with your neighbors. Simply consuming news, even conservative news, won’t do anything but make you angry. Use that anger to create something positive instead of just complaining.
The left is successful because they have a compelling narrative. They’re fighting to end racism, homophobia, and provide a living wage for all. We need to develop our own ideas, narratives, and communities instead of just criticizing the left and complaining about the news.
