Conservatives slam GOP leadership over ‘insane’ choice of debate moderators.
Conservatives Roast GOP Leadership After Moderators for Next Debate Are Announced: ‘Absolute Insanity’
NBC News made a highly anticipated announcement on Wednesday regarding the moderators for the third Republican primary debate of the 2024 presidential campaign. The choices immediately sparked outrage among many conservatives, who took to social media to express their discontent.
Last week, the Republican National Committee partnered with NBC News, among other organizations, for the upcoming debate on November 8 at the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts in Miami. RNC Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel expressed her excitement about the selection of NBC News, Salem Radio Network, the Republican Jewish Coalition, and Rumble as partners for the event, stating that they would provide an excellent opportunity for the candidates to contrast their plans and vision with the failures of the Biden White House.
The announcement revealed that the debate would be moderated by left-wing NBC News hosts Lester Holt and Kirsten Welker. NBC News confirmed the news on Twitter, providing details about the date and time of the debate.

Lester Holt has been the anchor of NBC Nightly News since June 2015, while Kirsten Welker recently took over hosting duties for “Meet the Press.” Both moderators have previous experience moderating debates during the 2020 election cycle. Joining them will be Hugh Hewitt, host of his own radio talk show on the Salem Radio Network.
According to Politico, five GOP candidates have qualified for the debate: former President Donald Trump, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, former U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley, former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, and entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy. However, Trump has decided to skip the debate and hold a rally in nearby Hialeah, Florida.
The choices of Holt and Welker as moderators have sparked criticism from conservatives who question why left-wing individuals were selected to ask questions and moderate the conduct of Republican candidates. Tom Bevan, founder of RealClearPolitics, called the picks “absolute insanity.”

The Nebraska Freedom Coalition accused the Republican National Committee and Ronna McDaniel of being part of the “uniparty” instead of representing conservative ideals.
Why do they allow this? The RNC and Ronna Romney are the epitome of the uniparty. What’s sad is they have state GOP organizations across the country that are just like them. Glad we were able to unseat our establishment state party.

Mollie Hemingway of The Federalist pointed out that Welker had recently displayed bias during her interview with Trump, where she lied in defense of Democrats’ abortion position. Jack Posobiec, a Trump supporter, reminded his followers that Welker had previously acted as a Democratic mouthpiece during the 2020 presidential debate.
Conservatives on social media expressed their frustration with the choices, with some calling it “insane” and others questioning the motives of GOP leadership. This pattern of allowing media outlets to select hostile moderators for Republican debates while Democratic debates feature left-wing moderators has raised concerns among conservatives.
It is clear that many conservatives believe the GOP should prioritize selecting moderators who align with Republican values and address the issues that Republican voters care about.

What concerns do conservatives have about the fairness and objectivity of the upcoming debate and the role of moderators Holt and Welker?
Lishment GOP chairman in Nebraska last year. Sad thing is, there are so many of them across the country.

Conservative commentator and author Ben Shapiro also criticized the choices, saying that the RNC’s selection of moderators was ”idiotic.” He pointed out that Holt and Welker have shown bias in their previous coverage and questioned their ability to be neutral moderators.
The outrage from conservatives highlights ongoing tensions between the Republican Party’s base and its leadership. Many believe that the party establishment, including the RNC, does not accurately represent conservative values and caters to a more moderate agenda. The selection of left-wing moderators for the debate only reinforces this perception for many conservatives.
Furthermore, the controversy surrounding the moderators raises concerns about the fairness and objectivity of the upcoming debate. Moderators play a critical role in guiding and shaping the discussion, and their biases can influence the tone and direction of the debate. Conservatives worry that Holt and Welker will not ask tough questions or hold the candidates accountable for their positions, particularly on issues important to the conservative base.
As the date of the debate approaches, it is likely that conservatives will continue to express their discontent with the choice of moderators. Their criticism serves as a reminder that for many conservatives, perceived bias and unfairness in the media and political establishment remain pressing concerns. The pressure is on for the candidates to navigate the debate with skill and address these concerns to maintain support among their conservative base.
In the future, it will be interesting to see how the Republican Party and its leadership respond to the criticism and work to bridge the gap between its base and the establishment. Ultimately, the ability to address these concerns and unite the party will be crucial for the success of the Republican candidate in the 2024 presidential election.
