Contribution requests to support Trump sent out as text messages during Super Bowl – Washington Examiner
During Super Bowl LIX, the Philadelphia Eagles triumphed over the Kansas City Chiefs with a score of 40-22. Notably, President Donald Trump attended the event, becoming the first sitting president to do so. While watching the game, many of his supporters received text messages soliciting contributions for his campaign. The messages, titled “HALFTIME UPDATE FROM TRUMP,” urged recipients to donate by claiming the Democrats were threatening to impeach him again following his executive orders. The text message included a link to a webpage that outlined Trump’s future plans, which resembled campaign material, and contained donation requests ranging from $20.25 to $2500. The fundraising effort was backed by the Trump National Committee and WinRed,with no disclosed information on the amount raised.
Contribution requests to support Trump sent out as text messages during Super Bowl
The Philadelphia Eagles defeated the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LIX, 40-22, on Sunday night. The game was played in New Orleans in front of a reportedly capacity crowd of 65,719, with millions more watching on television throughout the country.
President Donald Trump was present, becoming the first sitting president to attend a Super Bowl. And while the president was in New Orleans watching the Super Bowl, his supporters received text messages asking for contributions.
At approximately 8:39 p.m., during halftime of the Super Bowl, a text message titled “HALFTIME UPDATE FROM TRUMP” was sent to people throughout the country, presumably to mostly Trump supporters.
“If you voted for me, I need you to read this before the game ends ASAP,” read the message, followed by a link to a website.
Users who clicked on the link were directed to a webpage with a “Trump Vance 2025” banner at the top left corner and a large photograph of President Donald Trump. Underneath the banner was a message that read, “President Trump’s Halftime Update.”
“I won in a LANDSLIDE VICTORY, and now, Democrat lunatics have threatened to IMPEACH ME AGAIN after my Historic Trump Executive Orders! I will never let them STOP MAGA,” it read. “SO, in order for me to Unleash the Golden Age of America, we need a GAMEPLAN. Here’s mine.”
Then, 10 points were listed as part of the plan in what arguably resembled campaign literature. These included statements that read, “unleash America with historic Trump executive orders,” “confirm my entire Cabinet immediately,” “take back the Panama Canal,” “Make Canada and Greenland Great Again,” “eliminate waste, fraud, and abuse from the deep state,” “close the border,” and “bring back great American jobs.”
“If you support me on my mission to SAVE AMERICA, I’m humbly asking for you to make a huge statement right now that Democrats want to start another SHAM IMPEACHMENT,” read the solicitation message. “Before the game is over, I’m calling on ONE MILLION pro-Trump patriots to chip in and proudly say: I stand with President Trump.”
Viewers were then asked to answer the question: “Do you stand with Trump as he faces a potential third impeachment?” This followed with a prompt to answer “yes” or “no” before being asked for a contribution, incrementally ranging from $20.25 to $2500. There was also an option for “other” for those who wished to contribute a different amount.
After the solicitation, two disclosures notified users who paid for the website. One identified the Trump National Committee JFC as one group that financed the advertisement, and a separate message identified WinRed as a sponsor. Both contained the specific Disclaimer, “not authorized by any candidate or candidate’s committee.”
No data was available on how much money was raised through the contribution request.
