‘Democrats’ Desperate ‘Redos’ to Steal House Majority: Corrupt and Pathetic’
Democrats’ Desperate Attempt to Regain House Majority
After losing control of the U.S. House of Representatives in the 2022 midterm elections, Democrats are now resorting to extreme measures in their quest to regain power.
Politico reported that Democrats in New York and Wisconsin are considering “redistricting redos” by making changes to the composition of courts in those states.
“It’s absolutely corrupt and pathetic,” said Republican Rep. Nicole Malliotakis of New York. “They may have changed the makeup of a court in order to affect an outcome. I hope that’s not the case.”
Republican Rep. Glenn Grothman of Wisconsin also expressed his concerns, stating, “I think it would be odd to change the maps in Wisconsin or anywhere every time you have a new state supreme court, right? This sets a really weird precedent in which you could have five different maps in a 10-year period, depending upon who won or lost a state Supreme Court race.”
The Politico report highlighted the Democrats’ true motives, stating, “Democrats often employ high-minded rhetoric about democracy in these cases, but they are keenly aware that even a small advantage could determine who controls the chamber in 2025.”
The main issue in both states is the Democrats’ insistence on using the courts to overturn the results of the recent redistricting processes.
“The only way you can dig out of a gerrymandered state is by appealing to the courts,” said Democratic Rep. Marc Pocan of Wisconsin.
Both parties have a questionable history when it comes to gerrymandering.
However, the idea of using the courts to re-draw districts before the next U.S. census is appalling for several reasons.
First, it is a blatant power grab disguised as a commitment to democracy.
Second, and more importantly, it undermines self-government. The entire redistricting process reflects poorly on our elected representatives.
Take New York, for example. The state uses an Independent Redistricting Commission to draw its electoral maps, as a way to prevent corruption and ensure fairness.
However, this approach leads to the abdication of responsibility by the people’s representatives, who rely on the courts to make decisions on redistricting.
In the most recent redistricting cycle, neither the legislature nor the commission could agree on a map, resulting in the state’s highest court appointing a special master.
While some level of self-interest is expected in any human endeavor, resorting to the courts in a case like this shows a complete disregard for the principles of constitutional self-government.
Meanwhile, we can expect the Democrats to continue their rhetoric about democracy, while their actions tell a different story.
