Rep. Cory Mills (R-FL) is continuing his efforts to help people affected by Hurricanes Helene and Milton, cautioning people who wish to deliver supplies to the storm victims.
Mills’s most recent update comes a day after the storm made landfall as a Category 3 hurricane. Volusia County, one of Florida’s hardest-hit areas, had its curfew lifted at 8 a.m. Thursday, and flight restrictions were lifted a few hours later at 11 a.m.
“At that point, I’ll be able to get the helicopters up to be able to look and do damage assessment, as well as for work with our EMCs,” Mills said in a video posted to X. “We have 10 6,500-watt generators that are going to be additional that are going to be delivered in about two hours over the New Smyrna Beach Airport, so I’ll be picking those up and then transporting them over to shelters.”

Mills has also cautioned about hazards that could be present in the wake of Hurricane Milton, including downed power lines and “deadfall trees” that could fall onto people passing by. Floridians trying to survey damage might also encounter standing water, with Mills warning people not to “make the assumption that it’s lower than what it is.”

By Thursday afternoon, Mills showcased the myriad of supplies that were being delivered to storm victims. He advised those who wish to donate to the hurricane recovery cause to consider Seminole HEART, which he deemed “a great nonprofit” organization.

Mills is no stranger to taking action in areas of need, as he executed a rescue mission in Israel that has returned hundreds of Americans home following the Oct. 7, 2023, Hamas attacks. The Florida congressman also helped U.S. citizens evacuate from Afghanistan following the U.S.’s withdrawal from the country in 2021.
Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) said Thursday morning that 635,000 power restorations have occurred in Florida since Hurricane Milton, though there are still over 3 million people without power. Like Mills, the governor has urged caution against poststorm hazards that could be about.
