Arkansas GOP⁤ Senator Slams President Biden’s Response to Attacks by Iranian-Backed ⁢Forces

Senator Tom Cotton criticized President Biden ‌for his weak reaction to attacks by Iranian-backed forces that⁣ have resulted⁢ in the deaths of American troops.‍ Cotton pointed out⁣ that Biden’s responses have been ⁣directed at “empty buildings or warehouses in the middle of ‍nowhere.”

Cotton appeared on Fox News with hosts Dana Perino and Bill Hemmer. Perino quoted a Washington Post columnist who criticized Cotton and fellow GOP⁣ Senator John Cornyn (R-TX) for calling for action in response to the killing of U.S. troops by Iranian-backed forces, ‌claiming their comments were “irresponsible actions without bearing responsibility for the outcome ⁢is a senatorial perk.”

“What‌ would you say is actually ‘irresponsible’ in this situation?” Perino asked.

“What’s irresponsible is the 11 ⁣years of the Obama-Biden foreign policy towards Iran of trying to appease, coddle, and conciliate ayatollahs who ⁤still chant to this day, ‘Death‌ to America’ and ‘Death to‌ Israel,’” Cotton ⁤replied. “That’s why ‌we have all these attacks on Americans.”

“Bill, you laid⁢ out the more than 160 attacks‍ since Hamas attacked ⁣Israel on October 7,” he said to Hemmer. “That didn’t start ⁣because of that October 7 atrocity; there were more than 100 attacks against Americans since Joe Biden took office before ⁣October 7th. How many times did we retaliate? Something like four or five. ⁢Almost every case‍ against empty buildings or warehouses in the ‌middle ‌of nowhere. Again, that simply emboldened Iran and its proxies throughout the Middle East to⁣ continue ‍these attacks. That’s ‍the height of irresponsibility,⁣ a cowardly sniveling policy that led ‍our troops as sitting ducks in a region because the⁢ commander-in-chief would not take action to protect them.”

Hemmer noted that when the U.S. attacked the Houthis in Yemen, “They knew it was coming, and they ‌scattered, that could happen again.”

“Because, again, that’s a consequence of⁣ Joe Biden’s policy of fear and appeasement and conciliation,” Cotton asserted. “Just like with Ukraine and before that with Afghanistan, he’s ‌scared of his‍ own shadow. He keeps worrying about escalation. What we saw over the weekend was a massive escalation by Iran. The ⁣only way to solve that threat is to directly target Iran’s terrorist forces throughout the region and in Iran itself, to make it clear that we will never tolerate the deaths of our ⁢fellow Americans.”

Asked if Biden had ⁢the authority to launch attacks without Congressional involvement, Cotton answered, “I believe the president always has the inherent Constitutional authority to use⁣ our military, to‍ defend our troops, to retaliate for attacks on our⁤ troops, and to ⁤protect America’s interests. That’s⁤ central to the president’s Commander-in-Chief power. What I question is ⁤whether Joe Biden is worthy of wielding ⁣that‍ power because he has not⁣ protected our troops‌ or advanced our‍ interests in the region for three years; he’s left them as sitting ducks, refusing to strike back whenever we are struck. That is my major concern.”

How does a lack of decisive ‍response to Iranian aggression embolden their militias to continue attacking American outposts?

‌is what ⁤happens when you send a signal of weakness,‌ when you don’t hold your enemies accountable,” Cotton replied. “Look, I’m not necessarily ‍saying we need to launch ‍a full-scale invasion every ⁤time that⁢ Iran-backed Shia militia launches an attack‍ on an‍ American outpost, but at least we should have‌ reciprocal actions.‌ At least we should hold them⁤ accountable for their aggressions, and instead, this administration has simply emboldened them and allowed them to continue to attack.”

Cotton emphasized the importance of a strong and decisive response to attacks on American troops. He highlighted⁣ the danger‌ of allowing Iranian-backed forces to act with impunity and ‌the need to send a clear message that such actions will not⁣ be tolerated.

“If⁤ you don’t take action against Iranian militias and put them in the ground when they attack our ‍troops, it simply emboldens them to ⁣continue to do so,”‍ he said. “That’s the problem, Bill. ‌That’s why we’ve seen U.S. servicemen and women die, whether‌ it’s in Iraq or whether it’s in Syria, whether it’s ⁣in ⁤Iraq by these Iranian ⁤militias or whether it’s in Yemen by their proxies, the Houthis.”

Cotton ‌also criticized the Obama-Biden administration for their approach to Iran, stating that it only furthered Iran’s aggression and ‍threat to American interests.

“Joe Biden served as ⁤Vice President for 8 years under Barack Obama, and look at the consequences of the Obama-Biden approach to Iran,”‍ he said. “They gave Iran billions of dollars. ‌They gave them a pathway‌ to a nuclear weapon. ⁤They weakened sanctions. They lifted the arms embargo that was preventing them from ⁣sending ⁢weapons to their terrorist proxies through ⁢⁤the ⁢Middle East. That’s⁢ why we’ve seen so many billions of dollars reach Iran. That’s why we’ve seen attacks⁢ on civilian aircraft, whether it was in Saudi Arabia or ⁤most recently just a few weeks ago, in UAE or attacks on shipping. Or attacks now⁣ on Americans.”

Cotton’s strong statements⁤ against President‌ Biden’s response to‌ attacks by‍ Iranian-backed forces ⁣highlight the deep concerns among some Republicans‌ regarding the current administration’s foreign policy. Concerns about perceived weakness‍ and appeasement towards Iran‍ have been a longstanding ⁤issue of contention in ⁢American politics.

The ⁤debate over how to effectively respond to⁤ attacks by Iranian-backed⁣ forces is a complex one, with different perspectives on the best course of action. However, what remains clear is the need ⁤for a strong ⁤and decisive response‌ that ⁤protects American ‌troops and sends a clear message to ⁤Iran and its proxies‌ that such attacks ⁢will not ⁣be tolerated.

Senator Cotton’s criticism serves to remind us of the importance of a robust and strategic approach to⁤ foreign policy, ⁤particularly in dealing with adversaries⁢ like Iran. The security and well-being of American troops should always be‍ a top priority, and it is ⁤crucial for the administration⁣ to demonstrate strength and resolve in the face of threats. Only through⁢ firm action can the United States ensure‌ its national security and protect the lives of‍ its servicemen and women.
