He highlighted her delay in engaging with the media, noting that her first on-camera interview would occur just days before a critical debate. Lewandowski criticized Harris’s request to alter debate regulations, expressing concern over her perceived lack of preparation and openness to the press. He contended that her actions should raise alarm among journalists, noting the extended time it took for her to conduct interviews. Furthermore, he argued that the current election cycle presents an opportunity for Trump to defeat two Democratic candidates, particularly with President Joe Biden’s withdrawal from the race leading to Harris’s nomination, which he believes could simplify Trump’s path to victory. Lewandowski reiterated that no disputes exist regarding the upcoming debate’s rules.

Corey Lewandowski, a senior adviser to former President Donald Trump, underscored how little time Vice President Kamala Harris has to win over support ahead of the presidential election, as the “countdown clock is finally on” for her.
Lewandowski detailed how it has taken Harris over a month to do an interview with the press, which will take place Thursday night, less than two weeks before the next presidential debate next month. The adviser also referenced a report that the Harris campaign had asked for several changes to the debate, claiming she wanted to change the debate’s rules because she has gone from being the vice presidential candidate to the presidential candidate.
“We all agreed to what it was,” Lewandowski said on MSNBC. “Why she wanted to change it, when she wanted to be the same height as Donald Trump, she wanted notes, the fact that she continues to hide from the media — and the countdown clock is finally on for her of when she’s going to sit down for her first national media debate — should be appalling to every journalist in America that has taken her 20-plus days to sit down and do an on-camera interview.”
Lewandowski argued that the 2024 election cycle is offering Trump a chance to beat two Democratic presidential candidates, claiming the last candidate, President Joe Biden, was driven “out of the race” after the first debate in June. When Biden announced in mid-July that he would not continue his reelection bid, Harris stepped in to become the Democratic nominee for president, which Lewandowski argued would make Trump’s path to victory easier.
Lewandowski said there are no squabbles over the next debate’s rules and that everything is set for it to be held next month. Trump briefly raised doubt over his participation in the debate when he questioned why he should do it in a social media post on Sunday night.
“I think everything has been settled and we look forward to this opportunity,” Lewandowski said.
Ahead of the debate, Harris’s first media interview since becoming her party’s 2024 presidential nominee will also feature Gov. Tim Walz (D-MN), her running mate.
On Truth Social, Trump argued that Dana Bash, the CNN anchor conducting the interview, has the opportunity to conduct a fair interview and show that Harris is “totally inept” to be president. He contended that Bash, along with fellow anchor Jake Tapper, was fair in his debate against Biden and wished her “good luck” with the interview.
