Families sue US nonprofit for funding and releasing COVID.
The Family Members of COVID-19 Victims Sue Nonprofit Linked to Chinese Lab
A nonprofit organization that collaborated with and provided funding to a Chinese laboratory exploring the manipulation of coronaviruses is facing a lawsuit from the family members of COVID-19 victims. The plaintiffs, including Jenny Golden and other U.S. residents, believe that their loved ones’ deaths could have been prevented.
The lawsuit names EcoHealth Alliance and its executive, Peter Daszak, as defendants. The plaintiffs allege that the organization researched, funded, and intentionally or accidentally released the COVID-19 virus.

The lawsuit claims that the defendants engaged in the creation and genetic modification of dangerous coronaviruses, including SARS-CoV-2, with the intention of enhancing their virulence, transmissibility, and lethality. EcoHealth funneled U.S. taxpayer funds to the Wuhan Institute of Virology, where the first COVID-19 cases appeared.
Multiple U.S. intelligence agencies believe that COVID-19 originated from the Wuhan laboratory. A U.S. inspector general report concluded that the National Institutes of Health, which provided funding to EcoHealth, failed to adequately monitor the research. EcoHealth also failed to ensure that the Wuhan lab complied with U.S. requirements.
The plaintiffs argue that the defendants had a responsibility to carry out the research reasonably and protect the public from the risks of exposure to coronaviruses. They claim that the defendants’ negligence and dangerous research led to the fatal COVID-19 infections of their relatives.
The plaintiffs seek damages and other monetary relief to prevent similar acts in the future. EcoHealth has not responded to requests for comment but has previously defended its work with the Wuhan lab, stating that it followed all required conditions and that the viruses studied at the lab could not have caused the pandemic.
