Cruz and Allred in tight 1-point Senate race as Trump and Harris head to Texas – Washington Examiner
The Texas Senate race is incredibly close, with Republican Senator Ted Cruz and Democratic Representative Colin Allred neck and neck according to a new poll. A Hill-Emerson College survey shows Cruz leading Allred by just 1 point, 48%-47%, a significant tightening from prior polls where Cruz held a larger margin. With Election Day approaching in less than two weeks, the competition is heating up. In related political dynamics, former President Donald Trump is leading Vice President Kamala Harris 53%-46% in Texas. The poll reveals that independent voters tend to favor Allred slightly, while they support Trump as well. Both Trump and Harris are set to campaign in Texas amidst a broader focus on key battleground states in the presidential election.
Cruz and Allred in tight 1-point Senate race as Trump and Harris head to Texas
The Texas Senate race between Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) and Rep. Colin Allred (D-TX) is neck and neck, according to a new poll, as former President Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris come to town.
A poll from the Hill-Emerson College shows Cruz leading Allred, 48%-47%, with less than two weeks before Election Day. The survey is the closest margin between the two in recent weeks, with a University of Texas poll from earlier this month showing Cruz with a 7-point lead and a New York Times-Siena College poll showing Cruz with a 4-point lead over Allred.
The poll released Wednesday also shows Trump leading Harris in the Lone Star State, 53%-46%, as the presidential race focuses on battlegrounds, such as Arizona, Georgia, Wisconsin, Michigan, and Pennsylvania.
“Independent voters break for Allred, 47% to 42%, while these same voters break for Trump, 49% to 47%,” Emerson College Polling Executive Director Spencer Kimball said in a statement.
Both Trump and Harris will travel to Texas on Friday for different campaign stops. The former president will sit down with Joe Rogan to record an episode of his popular podcast, while Harris will be rallying with Allred on abortion in Houston.
While the Cruz-Allred contest is expected to be the tightest race for a Republican-held Senate seat this year, the closest races are expected to be for seats held by Democrats.
Texas’s Senate race has been rated as “lean Republican” by the Cook Political Report, the worst rating for the GOP of any of its seats, tied with Sen. Deb Fischer’s (R-NE) closer-than-expected race in Nebraska.
For Democratic-held seats, West Virginia’s seat, held by outgoing Democrat-caucusing Sen. Joe Manchin (I-WV), is rated as “solid Republican,” and Sen. Jon Tester’s (D-MT) reelection bid has been rated as “lean Republican.” Four Democratic-held seats, in Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin, have been rated as “toss-ups” by the Cook Political Report.
